I have been a patient at Smart Eye Care for many years. I was born with a cataract on my right eye. I was able to see out of it enough where I could still maneuver with that eye. About three weeks ago my eye developed a white film over it where I can only make out light but nothing else and it started putting a major strain on my eye. I called the Augusta office to make an appointment as I do not want to go blind. It took several days to get a call back with an appointment and the appointment was set out three weeks. I called the Farmingdale office the following week to assure them I would want to be called with a cancellation. I then went to my physician and they put an ASAP call into Dr. Gleaton's office. I was told to call Dr. Torbine and tell them this is an emergency situation with possible retina detachment. They got me in that day. My eyes were dialated and had images taken. Dr. Torbine told me that she believes it is just my cataract getting worse. She said it could be detachment or a bleed behind the eye but she can't see behind my cataract. She said she would send info. to Dr. Gleaton's office for opthamologist but they probably can't do anything. She than said that she did not consider this an emergency. I also told her my vision in my good eye has seemed to change. She did a quick exam with still dalated eyes and said it hasn't changed much and I don't need a new prescription unless I am getting new glasses. I believe a patient's sight would be an emergency. I have seen more compassion at the veterinarians office. I am so scared right now about going blind as no explanation was really given to me. I am retiring next year and I still have an 11 year old to raise. I do not want to go blind. I really would love an explanation as to what is or can be going on and maybe shown at least a little compassion.

Even though I will no longer be able to get my glasses at your establishment I will give your business a round of 10 stars on everything. The people you hire and the way they all work together is due to leadership. Unfortunately there is an impass in negotiations with you and my VSP insurance. I am hoping a settlement could be reached in the near future. The thoughts of going someplace else when you already go to the BEST in the business is hard. Nobody measures up to your business. I am glad for now I am allowed to keep my eye exams here as that is through my medical plan. I will be calling VSP to get them back to the table and negotiate, but in the mean time I wanted to thank your business for their very personal care.

Everyone was super friendly,. HOWEVER, it is impossible to get through to a person to ask a quick question, or even make an appointment. Not sure why as you seem to be adequately staffed. This has happened often and other places that I needed to call for an appointment that your office referred me to say the same thing.

The parking lot is easy and safe to enter and exit as is the entrance to the building. The reception area is comfortable and the check-in windows are bright and spacious for easier hearing and privacy. The glasses and frames fitting room is a comfortable distance away from the examining area which makes browsing a more intimate experience. I really appreciate the entire layout.

I was seen right at my appointment time. The wait time from when the tech was finished with doing the pressure check on my eyes to the time I was seated in the exam room was 40 minutes. This seems to always be a problem.

Ordered Contacts, they are always drop shipped to our home address. Today we received a call that they were in, at your office. When we questioned and told them they are supposed to come to our address, the lady told us we would need to now pay $15.00. We never escape the Farmingdale office without issues. This is of course not how you should do business when it is your error, but the fact that I am having to write this explains your thoughts on it.

The fact that is in a small community does not take away from the quality of a first rate eye health care facility- in fact it adds to it.

People are friendly. Bought expensive glasses that very cheaply made and lenses dont seem right. got better deal on eye buy direct. Contact appointment was rushed and script wasnt even close to what i needed. Cant wear them yet i was suppose to wear them for a week while another order was made. Over all my visit was a pleasant one. Thinking were explained to me in terms I could relate to. The one negative i would point out is, Are the eye machines, where you put your chin, wiped down between patients.?? We live in uncertain times today ie; COVID,FLU,COLD, general sickness. I think it should be mentioned to patients, or a sign saying machines are sanitized, between uses.

While in the waiting room yesterday morning, your office manager handled a delicate situation that I want to be sure she is recognized for. A patient was at the window when I arrived who seemed like she was confused a little. Your staff member at the window was very kind to her. She was then asked to have a seat in the waiting area. Your office manager came out and with the upmost patience, concern, kindness and apathy, took care of this patient, who I would assume had early dementia going on. She did an amazing job and not once made that patient upset or think she had made the error. Thank you for being such a kind person.

The Farmington office was very noisy and cluttered. I feel that the Augusta office is cleaner and more professional looking. I would prefer to go to Augusta in the future if there is an OD that can treat diabetic patients. I do really like Dr. Tobyne though.

I'm very satisfied with the care and treatment that I get. All of the staff from the receptionists to the techs to the docs are capable, competent, and kind. I sometimes find the various dry eye add-ons that are offered a bit much, but the staff is not high-pressure about them. All of my questions get answered, and sometimes they even laugh at my jokes. I appreciate having opticians and frame choices available on-site.

I suddenly had issues with one of my eyes and I stopped in with my concerns, I didn't know if I was having a stroke or what. they took me in within 20 with no appointment, checked me all out and reassured me it wasn't a stroke, it was an ocular migraine. I've had migraines all my life, all different types but nothing like this, I only had a slight head ache. is was awesome that I could stop in without an appointment and they took me in that quick.. kudos to all of you Smart Eye Care!! and thank you

Dr Holt is wonderful. I've been going to him for years, and intend to continue doing so. Unfortunately the support staff at the front desk is not great. It was very difficult to make an appointment: I emailed and called and left messages with no response. Finally got a live person on the phone and made the appointment, but it took me about 3 months. They've were also so rude to my husband that he refuses to go back and has switched eye drs.

I had no wait prior to my appointment. I had pleasant and friendly greetings by each employee of Smart Eye Care. Each employee asked permission prior to repositioning my head for the eye evaluation or test being administered. Even the eyeglass attendant did not pressure me into purchasing a new pair of glasses. The ladies at check-out were pleasant, as well. The facility was clean and all employees were very professional.

Typically I would not fill out a survey. I’ve ever had a poor experience in my many years at Smart Dr Brewer is and always has been a fantastic provider to me. The incident yesterday with the insurance still blows my mind. I had spoken with the office manager and had seemingly had things worked out. The receptionist was quick to brush off what I was saying, claiming she had no idea what I was referring to and stating the person who might know simply “wasn’t there” to ask. She seemed eager to get me to simply go along with her brush off, whether leave or agree to her side of the insurance issue rather than actively seeking assistance. It wasn’t until a tech popped in that she seemed to get that maybe the patient did have a better understanding of what was going on. I work in medicine, in the same role she is in, and I can’t imagine not trying my hardest to get to the bottom of an issue rather than “sorry that’s just how it is”. I apologize my part in any scene that happened but the receptionist is the first impression and the face of the office. Treating a patient the way I was treated is ridiculous. I appreciate the tech, the doctor and Wendy for helping me solve the problem and allow me to have my exam.

The service is always excellent when I have an appointment. My only issue was trying to contact an actual person this year. In previous years, someone has always answered the phone, but now it is automated. Nobody answered my e-mail request for an appointment and a call wasn't returned until my second message was left. However, the staff is always super friendly, helpful with questions and curteous. Dr. Brewer is always super friendly and helpful with different ideas for trying new contacts.

I've ALWAYS liked going to the eye doctors for some strange reason, hahaa, but I really love Smart Eye Care in Farmingdale, Maine! Their front office person is just delightful, both the medical assistant/nurse who originally checks you in and runs a few tests and the doctor himself are knowledgeable, take their time with you, fully explain any prescriptions or eye issues you may have and answer all your questions to the fullest without the slightest bit of annoyance! They make sure they're up to date with any overall health issues you may have that could be affecting or could be being caused by your eyes. The woman in the glasses dept who showed me what they had for frames took well over a half an hour with me and helped me find the best possible fit to stop the indents I had started getting above my ears, and was very personable to boot! I just love this place; I'm glad I chose them to be my new eye care after Hallowell lost Dr. Nuzzo's office to retirement!! Them being literally a minute down the street is just an EXTRA bonus!! 😁 To top it all off they participate with & donate to their community's children; I know because I sit on one of the boards they contribute to!! I/We appreciate it greatly, and the kids certainly couldn't do it without their sponsors!! Thank you for providing excellent service, great eye care & for making a patient feel like a friend (I'm telling you, that girl in the front, she is top notch)!! Never lose her! Lol!! It makes me upset that daily contacts are pushed so hard versus monthly contacts. Daily contacts are more than five times more expensive than monthly contacts after my insurance. And to try to sell them to me by telling me I make up for it because I would have to buy solution for the monthlies is nonsense. Solution cost is very cheap compared to the extra cost of daily. And then to say that if I want to try the monthlies I have to make yet another appointment (lost time at work) and yet have another expense for said appointment for a “new fitting” session.

Unfortunately this review can't match with my expectations of a great eye care option. While the Doctor was great and I was very happy with his care, the final fitting of my glasses left something to be desired. Handing me a pair of glasses, asking if they fit and taking the balance of a $600 pair of glasses, then saying good-bye. Is so not good customer service, especially for such a great shop. I guess I should not compare this to a simple Walmart walk-in glass center. At least after the woman checked the arms, the nose piece and general placement, I was to actually wear my glasses for a full day without a sore RED nose bridge, after I went there. Please review the most simple way of fitting procedures to your employees. I will be back for my yearly exam, but will double think about getting my glasses there.

I want to thank Carrie at SmartEye in Farmingdale. We were having family pics done and at the last minute I realized that both my husband and I had transition lenses. I called SmartEye and Carrie told us to come right in and she took out lenses out and gave us a pair of extra frames - hence no sunglasses in the pics. He takes the time to explain the test results and answer questions. One thing to note regarding the new facility is that the walls are really thin. I was surprised that after seeing Dr. Brewer for a few years, my son was not rescheduled with him and we were scheduled with Dr. Holden.. He was excellent but there is a breakdown with your scheduling team. I also found your front desk receptionist making multiple errors with looking at the wrong people on the screen, short and rude at check in and checking out. Nice new building. I wish you were within my insurance network, Martin's Point. I may need to switch to a service that is in the network. During first exam before doctor's, I mentioned floaters (now) and a feeling of something in an eye, but not now but this wasn't addressed at all during the doctor exam. I was also given mixed messages about which eye drops I should use.

Wes able to get a quick appointment. Had my eye exam and picked out my frames within an hour. A quick 5 days later they were ready. I had to go back a couple of times to get my frames adjusted. My recent visit at Smart Eye Care was my first experience with an eye care center. I really had no idea what to expect, and felt a little anxious. The staff were all quick and very professional. Dr. Holden provided me with the answers to my questions, and helped me understand the process, my diagnosis, and my options for care. After my appointment with Dr. Holden, I was taken care by Eden, the optician who helped me choose my frames and lenses. She was incredibly helpful as she explained what my insurance covered, helped me compare various lense options, and was so patient while I took time to make my choice. Staff is always friendly, and got me in quickly when I called with a problem. I even showed up to the wrong office, so they called to let the other office know I was on my way!
