The doctors are great...the billing system is not. My contacts went up dramatically from year to year and my rebate went down (unknown by me and the receptionist). I then received 4 bills from the facility to pay even more money. Something is wrong and I plan to straighten this out at my March appt.

The Gustafson staff is always great to work with - from being greeted when you walk in, to getting started with the exam, to explaining the tests being done, to speaking with the doctor with the diagnosis, to picking out new frames, and then walking out the door. I highly recommend Gustafson Eye Care. I always have a great experience at this office. From the doctors to the front end staff - everyone is very helpful and courteous They know my insurance and what is covered, so they were able to offer options that were more cost effective. They get booked solid at the end of the year, so they put me on a wait list just in case there was a cancellation. As promised, they followed through and I got an appointment before the end of the year. I've seen Dr. Hutchins and Dr. Gustafson and would recommend either one.

I have gone to this facility several times to have my contact lenses fitted properly. Each time the staff are friendly, courteous, professional, and helpful. I am treated with respect and my reports are always heard and the staff tries very hard to make sure I have what I need to have a good experience. The doctor is always professional, takes time with me to ensure that my lenses are fitting properly and that my vision with them is as good as it can be. She makes every effort to tweak the prescription or fit so that I have the best visual clarity and the most comfortable fit. They are not satisfied until I am satisfied. I would recommend this business.

I had a lacerated cornea which I incurred while trialing a contact. Not because of the fit of the lens but because I had trouble removing the lens. They got me right in within 20 minutes and Dr. Gustafson examined me. What a great team. ♥️

The assistant was amazing and very friendly as well as the doctor. Only downside is the Fd lady when checking out. She told me I had to pay $108 but did not explain my tx plan or anything like my pervious office did. I had to ask her from what or what are the charges for. They need to do better with customer service and explaining patients their tx plans. I was not very satisfied with the front desk lady, I dont know her name but she sits closer to the bathroom.

Very attentive and accommodating for urgent care when my corneal erosion came back. They knew exactly what to do and I was able to be seen and treated with a new procedure all in the same visit. They made sure I had 24/7 call/text access if the device tore or started coming out. Luckily I didn’t need it, but comforting to know there was someone available. Super nice staff and the docs explain everything very well.

I’ll never use another Dr. Dr. G has seen me through 25 years with a difficult prescription. I always get the cutting edge improvements to visionwear and diagnostics. No chance for improvements will be missed. Having said that, staff is the key. I’ve done about 100 virtual try-ons at Zenni and Warby Parker but nothing could possibly get me to glasses I love except 10 minutes with this staff! I am not even exaggerating. I showed Michelle two frames I liked but would never buy because of their color & she picked one I LOVED. It seems like magic to my unskilled eyes (ha) but I know it’s her huge skill with color and shape and aesthetics. That’s what I paid for. That’s why saving money on a website would just be silly!

Gustafson Eye Care is professional and caring. I've seen several different doctors here and each one takes the time to answer your questions and give you the information you need for complete vision care. Gustafson’s Eye Care is a top notch clinic for eye care! From my initial phone call t through my entire first visit; the service was excellent! When I first called; Sarah was very friendly, patient and so helpful! She’s an exceptional first contact staff member for all new patients and those returning. Dr. Hutchins went above and beyond as an eye doctor and I felt very comfortable during my first visit. I have already spoken accolades about Dr. Hutchins and the entire staff to others I know. My only regret is that I’ve lived in Palatine 45 years and hadn’t gone here sooner. This was my first visit to Gustafson’s; but I am looking forward to working with this staff in my future eye care. I have been a patient at Gustafson Eye Care for over 20 years. I will always recommend Dr. Tom to friends and family. This review is based solely on my experience bringing in my son for his first contact lens training. He has been begging for contacts for a year and while my husband and I were tentative, we agreed to give it a try. While the person sitting with him was kind, I felt she did not offer any kind of training to help him. She handed him the contacts and asked if he ever opened a fruit cup and told him it was 'like that'. From there on, I found myself helping my son and explaining to him how to look at the lens, hold the lens, giving him pointers on how to put the lens in, etc. It was frustrating and quite frankly awkward to sit there as I thought the person doing the training would take the lead, as I would assume they are more so the expert in this field. She did say a few things about holding your eye lid open, but really she sat and just watched, little to no guidance, at all. He is 9 years old, he most definitely needed 'training'. She may work great with teens, but as a mom of a younger child (and former teacher), I beg of you to please not have the same person who was with us, work with younger kids. Ryan is our child is does not get frustrated easily and has a 'can do' attitude, not much rattles him. He was frustrated throughout the 'training'. I am totally aware that many do not leave with contacts, and I was not expecting it to go one way or another, I was frustrated and sad for my son. He left in tears and he left with never wanting to try for it again. This is a child who has begged us to take him for contacts for over a year now, and the last few months every single day. I am not one to complain; this is a hard review to write, but I feel strongly though that our experience needed to be addressed, as I would not want any other young children to have a similar experience.

This was my first time at Gustafson Eye Care, and I have to say that I was very impressed with Dr. Rachel Hutchins. She was very thorough, focused and friendly. She found the problem and it treated it accordingly. She seems extremely knowledgable. The desk staff were friendly and accommodating. The waiting area is very nice, clean and comfortable. They do a great job at social distancing and disinfecting. I would highly recommend them.

Dr. Gustafson is very thorough and professional. His office has hired a new doctor who deals solely with dry eyes, and their office is up-to-date with the newest equipment and technology. Dana is very helpful in purchasing new glasses. When my glasses needed repair, they have been most helpful, replacing scratched lenses for no cost.

Waiting and waiting, and waiting..................4pm appt, Sheryl took me right away to do the initial screening - vision / eye mapping/glaucoma. then taken to exam room to wait for Dr Gustafson , that was at 4:20pm. So going quickly, I'll be done before 5, or so I thought. Then I waited until 4:53 . 30 minutes sitting & waiting. So you lose a star for that. Its funny but its exactly the same thing that happened a year ago during my last appt. Oh well, but the people are extremely nice and Professional and I trust Dr T. Gustafson ! Worth the wait !

Best eye doctors and staff members ever!....I think I have seen almost every doctor and I can't even choose which one I like the best because they are all fabulous! The first time I walked in the office, I thought I was being punked. Everyone was SO NICE and professional, I honestly was not used to being treated so nice and so special. Every time I leave their office, I feel like I'm in a better mood. I honestly can't say enough positive things about this wonderful group of professionals.

I am suffering from pink eye symptoms which includes a broken blood vessel. I appreciated Dr. Kelly Oliver’s friendly, caring & Professional attitude towards me. She took the time to ask me questions, carefully examine my eyes and then clearly explain her diagnosis to me. She supplied me with a Prescription for antibiotic eye drops and further care instructions to help relieve the uncomfortable symptoms. She answered all of my questions. The front desk staff were also friendly and helpful. They had protocols in place to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 which included wearing a mask, temperature checks upon arrival, signs to social distance and the office was very clean. I would highly recommend this Dr. and staff to anyone.

Everyone at Gustafson Eye Care is so helpful and pleasant to deal with. I've never been crazy about going to the eye doctor because I get pretty nauseous from the dilation drops so the option to have images taken instead is so wonderful. Beyond that, though, all of the employees are always so wonderful, they make you feel known and heard and I can't say enough good things about them. When scheduling my appointments I don't really have a preference on which doctor because you really spend more time with the other employees. This time I had a few questions I had been sitting on for a while for the doctor. Dr. Gustafson was happy to answer all of them and I really liked how he took the time to explain without being condescending and I was a fan of his scientific explanations as well. Love love love it here!

I found Dr. Thomas Gustafson on the Healthgrades App. I noticed on his profile that he had close to 400 positive reviews. As a result of this I made an appointment with Dr. Gustafson. I was highly impressed with this practice as it has the latest technology equipment that most practices that I’ve been to in the past don’t have. “Everyone” in this office was incredibly attentive, compassionate, patient, and answered all of my questions and concerns. I'm so glad I picked Gustafson Eye Care. Everyone on staff was so pleasant and professional. I usually have trouble with the "number 1 or number 2" process. Not so at Gustafson. I'm not sure if it's the equipment or the technician but everything seemed easier. The doctor took so much time to explain the results, listen to my concerns about my vision and explain all the options to me. I'm feeling very confident that I'm receiving the care I need.

The entire staff is simply the best (better than all the rest). ;-) Very professional, friendly, efficient, helpful, and informative. Their attentiveness leaves you feeling like you've been well taken care of, and they'd go above and beyond to make sure that your needs are satisfied. I've only seen Dr. G, and he's terrific at his profession and very personable. He's like that favorite neighbor, but he's so thorough that his yard kind of has an edge on everybody's... yet you like him all the more for it. :-D Darren, Dana, and Cheryl are just superb. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.

It was a pleasure from the very start. I went into Gustafson's on a Saturday to see if I could get my eyes checked. They explained they could not fit me in for a full eye exam. They offered an interim solution, but I told them I could schedule later. The office looked up my service plan. The women at the service desk encouraged me to take a look at the glasses. One of the staff members came to assist me as I looked at some glasses. She asked questions and was very helpful. I had an appointment scheduled before I walked out the door. She also mentioned a new selection would be coming in that might be of interest to me. The doctor was wonderful. I felt the examination was very thorough and he answered my questions. I picked out a pair of glasses, which were part of the shipment that just arrived. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was a lovely experience.

As always, I received a comprehensive eye exam with Tom. First, Cheryl ran me through the preliminary exam with the diagnostic machines and the Digital Retinal Scaner (which I knew my insurance would not pay for). She then dilated my eyes, because of my pre diabetic condition. Tom explained all of the results to me in an understandable manner. His review of the blood vessel condition on the scan showed my pre diabetic condition has not had a detrimental affect on my sight. He said that my eyes looked fine and I would not need a prescription change at this time, and he would forward the results of this exam to my primary physician.
