You have a contract with UHC Medicare Advantage so you know what the contract agreement is and what portion the insurance company pays. That is a part of your agreement. You are going against the contract by not submitting for the refraction & contact lens evaluation and requiring the customer to pay for these charges. Not good customer service!

A week after scheduling an appointment for my husband which landed about 6 months out, I received a call inviting one of us to come fill a vacant spot in their schedule. (I already had an appointment pending in a month.). 45 minutes later I was being escorted to a room to have my eyes checked. All the staff were courteous and professional, and in less than an hour, I was on my way home. As a former medical provider, this was a fabulous experience (for a medical appointment)!

For my yearly contact lens exam of Dec. 2023 my wait time was minimal. (15min.?) The front desk always has at least 3 people available to check you in. One of the technicians came out to take me back and checked my vision at the various machines before ushering me into Dr. Paulsen's exam room. I mentioned to Dr. Paulsen that his staff works very smoothly together like a "well oiled" machine. His staff is always very professional and pleasant. Always a good experience!

Even though many of the old staff have changed, DCEA still runs like clockwork. Everyone is professional and friendly. I was very sorry to see Anne, my eyeglass fitter for the last decade, move on to greener pastures, but Wendy looks to fill her shoes more than capably. Dr. Annika is wonderful as always, and her nursing staff is topnotch. Coming in for special commendation is the fact that this office stays on top of every new advancement in the science of optometry with all the latest tools and gadgetry. I was vacationing in Door County when I woke up with severe eye pain. They squeezed me in on a Friday, which I'm sure wasn't easy. Their front office staff was very courteous and helpful also. I thought Dr. Annika was very professional and warm at the same time. She took time explaining my left eye (optic neuropathy) stating that I had a small optic nerve and that a sudden loss of blood pressure can cause this I believe that I had a very through exam and am now ready to have the right eye done. She referred me to Dr. Foster at my request. The entire office staff were great.

I have a long history of excellent eye care from Door County Eye Associates. Grace was very pleasant and professional. I do have a suggestion which does not impact my rating. When I ordered glasses I was informed that executive trifocals are no longer available, I asked if the bifocal would be like the ones my parents had in the 1940's and she nodded. She could tell that I was concerned about the lenses but offered no further information. I later found online a diagram of current trifocals which shows the middle element as a horizontal rectangle above the round near area. I've worn glasses most of my life with a brief period of time that I didn't need any due to eye surgery. Now that I'm older I need glasses once again and it has been nothing but a struggle to find the correct prescription not to mention fit of the glasses. Not only did I leave there after picking up my glasses being able to see clearly, but my glasses fit me properly. And my glasses arrived in one week! I am so happy! I've worn glasses since I was 5 years old. I used to love going to the eye doctor; back then, it was fun. But now, with aging and all that comes along with it, going in to a doctor isn't as much fun...the poking (not really), the eye drops (aren't so bad), but mostly, in the anticipation of what will be found. I scheduled an appointment due to a worsening eye condition. I couldn't be more pleased in how the whole office staff worked to get me in. When I arrived, I had my own personal eyeglass specialist help me find frames that fit my face...that part was truly fun! When I met Dr. Annika, I was also pleasantly surprised. No one has spent as much time with me as my pediatric eye doctor did. She explained everything and even though they "squeezed me in," she took all the time my situation needed and for that, I am grateful! Even though the whole visit wasn't "fun," it was a pleasant experience. I felt like I was in very good hands! I have found my next eyecare professionals and they are right here at Door County Eye Associates! Thank YOU ALL for ALL you do!

It was this honesty that caused me to keep the rest of my family at Door County Eye, even when my insurance didn't cover it. I love that if I run out of contacts, I have can have free lenses until my order comes in. It's always easy to get an appointment.

I’m happy to report I was treated like a long time patient on my first visit. Even with Covid protocols, I was welcomed warmly, felt heard when expressing my history and concerns. Picking out new frames was fun instead of an ordeal with the help of such a knowledgeable staff.

I had my first visit to Dr Annika yesterday and it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The moment I walked in the door I felt welcomed. I arrived early and called to see if I should come to do paperwork or wait until my exact time. After the receptionist looked to see if the waiting room was busy, she said come ahead. I was able to pick out my new frames before seeing the Doctor. The office gently but throughly followed all CDC pandemic safety protocols. The equipment and testing was up to date. The staff went out of their way to make me feel they were glad I came in. Dr Annika was just delightful and inspired confidence in me. She was very thorough in her explanations of my medical situation. I am a retired physician and tend to be very critical of Doctors and their offices and staff. I could not be more pleased.

I was very impressed that the office staff was able to work me into Dr. Paulsen's schedule recently for an eye emergency. I was seeing flashing lights out of the blue while I was at work recently and the administrative was amazing with trying to work me into the schedule. When I arrived they performed a test and then I was soon thereafter by Dr. Paulsen. It was a wonderful experience!

Staff are friendly and courteous. Thankfully this office takes seriously COVID-19 and the variants that are emerging by requiring masks, encouraging the use of sanitizer, and limiting the number of people in the building among other procedures. These precautions made me feel much more at ease in the building, and I am glad to know they care so much about their employees health. Besides the Optometrist being very knowledgeable and pleasant, the rest of the staff are very patient and efficient in their work. My optician was Pat, and they were very skilled and friendly. They also have a good selection of eyeglasses and sunglasses available.

The staff were professional and friendly through the whole process. This is not the place to get the cheapest possible glasses but I think I got the best lenses at a reasonable price. They don't offer cheaper polycarbonate lenses which I wouldn't use anyway due to poor optics. They did have one frame choice that included the good lens material with some basic frames for a little over $200 for the pair so I would still recommend this place if you just want affordable glasses without too much thought about style. (They weren't awful, just basic)

While I appreciate the doctor visit [Erik Paulson} and the eye technician, whose name was three letters, but since I couldn't read his name because I took the tests without glasses, don't know. I really appreciate them alot. They were so kind and considerate. Makes the nazi at the door seem extra weird. I was greeted at the door by a nazi, who said you must wear our mask. Then she put a mask on me, handling it first. Didn't know if she used a handcleaner first. Then she said there's a gap and told me to hold still. She would apply the tape. She did NOT have any tape on her mask. I repeat, she did NOT have any tape on her mask. I took the tape, letting myself out by unlocking the door and taped it myself. She then took the tape in her hand and got ready for the next client with the same tape I had just put down. I would certainly have preferred to take a mask that had not been handled. I was wearing a mask and that was a perfectly good mask. Don't know why I had to use hers. I would also have preferred that she NOT take the tape I just handed her and get ready for the next client. She had another roll of tape there and should have used that. I don't know why I have to instruct medical personnel on sanitation. If the nazi at the door was calmer, I would give the Dr. 10 stars.

DCEA has been my eye care provider for more than 10 years now, and the staff has always been just excellent. Friendly and professional as well. Annika(?) has come on board as the daughter and partner, and I have moved over to her providing my eye examinations and care. Understandable staff turnover in the 10 years or so while maintaining the same excellent service and care. While their eyeglasses aren't cheap, they are excellent in every respect and well worth the money. I am a well satisfied customer and so is my wife. Carl Zapffe, Gills Rock.

Two and a half weeks ago I called Door County Eye Associates to schedule an appointment for an eye exam. I was told that I couldn’t get an appointment for a couple of weeks. I explained to the receptionist about problems I was having with increased migraine episodes. She spoke with Dr. Annika about what was happening with me. Dr. Annika fit me into her schedule for the following day. After my eye exam I was told that I would need new lenses since my prescription had changed. As I was choosing a new pair of lenses, I asked if they had ever heard of migraine glasses. They had just recently received their display for the migraine glasses. I decided that I was going to order a pair of the migraine glasses besides my regular glasses. I have not had a migraine in 2 weeks. I do not remember how many years it has been since I could say that! I am very happy with both pair of my glasses. I realize that the migraine glasses will not prevent all my migraines but am so thankful for how they have so far. A huge THANK YOU to everyone at Door County Eye Associates for their unbelievable service and help. I am so happy that I chose them to help me with my eyes and my migraines!

I was so incredibly impressed by the entire staff at DCEA, from the cleanliness and professionalism of everyone there to the up-to-date equipment. I felt very cared for by Dr. Annika Paulson and she addressed all my concerns and answered my many questions. They were able to fit me in with an emergency appointment and I immediately felt piece of mind after seeing her. I will definitely be switching my all my eye care to DCEA. My son asked why the switch and I told him that the entire office and doctors were just on top of their game. He didn't understand so I told him it's the difference between going to Great Clips or going to a salon. Great Clips is fine, but at a salon they take time to get to know you and take care of you. Very impressed.

Wiping everything I touched.It took a lot longer for the exam. I was there an 1 1/2 hrs! People waiting outside to get in because they lock the doors! If they are that anal they should not be open. It took me 1 1/2 months to get an appointment-$184 later, going elsewhere next time.

I was on a short visit to the area and got something into my eye. Aurora Urgent Care arranged for a quick appointment with Dr. Paulsen. She was kind, knowledgeable and tenacious in locating the irritation. Once removed, she prescribed a antibiotic/steriod under two separate prescriptions to allow for a lower price if necessary. I returned a couple days later on my way home and the service was just as wonderful as my first visit. I was just so grateful for their ability to make me feel I was just as important as any of their regular customers. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone.

I would recommend Door County Eye Associates to anyone. The office is well run with warm, welcoming and efficient staff. Dr. Eric Paulsen (his daughter Annika practices with him, but I have not yet met her) is very thorough and compassionate in his exams, helpful in his suggestions and available when needed. I have had optometrists in other cities who have not been nearly as complete in their exams. We are very fortunate to live in a small town with excellent resources - and wonderful people!

They were so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, I was compelled to make an appointment for an eye exam.
