The doctor I saw was very nice however I don't feel like she did a thorough examination. She seemed very rushed to get me in and out and after leaving I did not feel I received great care as she did not address all of my concerns. Additionally, despite having an appointment I had to wait 45 minutes before being seen.

The service was on time, the assistants were kind and friendly, and I absolutely loved Dr. Holmes -- she is down-to-earth, personable and yet, professional. Additionally, as I was leaving, I ran into a friend whose daughter is a patient of Dr. Holmes. Her daughter also expressed her complete satisfaction with Dr. Holmes.

Caroline was very professional with an awesome bedside manner. She explained all of my options thoroughly and took interest in my concerns and desired outcome. My only two minor concerns are that it would have been nice to know that I would not be seeing the physician prior to my appointment, particularly since I was a new patient. Also the front desk clerk was pleasant enough but greeted me with "your name" instead of a "good afternoon or hello" first. Other than that, I enjoyed meeting Caroline, hope to meet Dr. Holmes and look forward to my next visit.

I arrived at the Washington DC Dermatology office 20 minutes before my appointment. While there I had to fill out some medical forms. I was seem by my Dermatologist at the exact time of my appointment. Dr. Holmes and her staff all were very professional, friendly and great with customer service.

This was my second visit to Washington DC Dermatology. Despite two years in between, both times I waited nearly 45 minutes to be seen from the time of my scheduled appointment. Both times I was told it just depends on how long other patients take, and they just happened to be running long that day. I scheduled my appointment just a few days earlier. Based on that plus the number of other people in the waiting room plus the fact that I only saw Dr. Holmes for less than one minute, it's clear that this is NOT somewhere to come for dermatological problems, only to come for cosmetic needs (e.g., Botox)(though I can't vouch for the quality of that work). Dr. Holmes' P.A. did all of the prescribing and counseling. I will not be returning to this office.

I had a very positive experience at Washington DC Dermatology. The front desk staff members were kind and professional. I arrived about 5 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, but the office was very accommodating and my wait time really did not suffer. Dr. Holmes was attentive yet respectful of my time; I was in and out of the office within 45 minutes.

I had a visit for a cyst behind my ear and it was drained. The next day it seemed just as bad so I called and they asked if I could come in right away. I wasn't charged for the additional visit and I think the problem is resolved. I am very happy with my experience.

Dr Holmes was excellent and so was the PA that was present during my examination. Dr Holmes wrote a report and mentioned that I should return in 2-3 weeks, but in the report wrote 6-8 weeks. Reception employees don't know the basics, like saying "good morning", "thank you" and "please".

Not sure to rate this office just yet. I was asked to arrive 30 minutes early for my appointment but was not checked in until after my appointment time. On a positive I did not have to wait after being checked in. The PA that I saw was very nice and informative the office was clean and she gave me alot of great options. All in all I will be returning.

Dr. Holmes is a great dermatologist. She attends to your medical needs, analyze your symptoms and gives you the solutions. Dr. Holmes and her staff are very gracious and professional. I had a very pleasant experience at Washington DC Dermatology. I was greeted with a friendly smile by staff. My visit was for cystic acne. The wait was only 15 minutes considering I walked in. The doctor provided immediate assurance that my persistent outbreak, and battleground looking face, was treatable and provided a detailed explanation of my condition which provided much needed comfort. The doctor wrote down precise instructions and offered several solutions. Two days later the cystic acne is healing quickly and I am on my way to feeling beautiful again. Thank you Dr. Holmes!

I would like to say that I have been to several Dermatologists in the Washington DC area and no one was able to explain my issue nor give a solution. I visited this office and on my first visit the nurse explained my problem to me and she also gave me a prescription. While Dr. Holmes was very nice, the appointment seemed rushed. Filling out paperwork and waiting for the doctor ended up being 2-3x times as long as my time with the doctor. Dr. Holmes didn't ask if I had any questions, and I left without really knowing next steps and still had a few questions. Like I said, everyone was very nice but overall I felt like another number.

I was late to my appointment thanks to Metro I called and the receptionist gave me 15 minutes to get there and then after that unfortunately they were closed ( it was a Friday). 25 min after my appointment I showed up and believe it or not the doctor agreed to see me. And as usual she was fabulous. This was a follow up and some things have changed and instead of giving me a prescription she gave me samples to test with and if they worked for me I could call for a prescription. further reinforced the reason i go there - they are about the customer first. So I will keep going back despite it being completely out of my way....:-) She also suggested a supa product for my under eye circles that is fairly popular with all the ladies at the office. This dermatologist is the real deal.

This was my first appointment with Dr. Holmes. Beginning with the front desk staff, I admired their professionalism which made me feel welcomed. The time I signed in, filled out forms and was called to see the doctor took about 15 minutes....impressed!!! There was a medical student who met with me first, she's brilliant, professional and classy. I wish her the very beau success. Dr. Holmes entered the room and was absolutely friendly. She discussed my "adult acne" 😂😂 and made her recommendations. She was thorough and provided appropriate medication education ...outlining the risks, benefits and side effects of the medication prescribed. I am pleased and would be happy to recommend her without reservation.

I have had several issues when calling the office. I had to call four times to have a prescription phoned into the pharmacy. Each time I called I was assured it was done and each time I checked with the pharmacy I was told it was never phoned in. As for this last appointment, I called to schedule it a week before. When I called a couple days prior to the appointment to verify (since I had gotten no email or text message notifying me of the appointment I made), I was told there was no appointment for me in the system. It seems there is a level of disorganization in the front office that should be addressed. Dr. Holmes is first class and the above is not the level of service I would expect from her office. I like Dr. Holmes and all the others I've seen there and I will continue to come back but I do hope for some front office improvements. Thanks

Long wait time!Took nearly 45 minutes before I was seen by the doctor and then once I saw the doctor everything was rushed. She was literally in the room with me for maybe 10 minutes. We didn't even talk about all of my issues because everything was so rushed, I didn't have time to bring up my other issues. The doctor also had not reviewed my prescription history and had no idea what I was already on and was asking me. It wasn't the best visit; my first visit was better. The treatment plan is working and I have another follow-up appointment in two months, so hopefully that visit isn't as bad as this one.

Why ask patient history if the staff doesn't read it? After spending 10 min. completing a patient history forms including a succinct reason for the visit, it is disappointing to have staff enter the exam room and repeat all the questions. Aside from courtesy, it seems it would expedite patient visits enormously for staff to at least scan the information. After the second redundant question, I directly asked the P.A. if she had had time to read my forms, and she said no she had not. I asked her to please take one minute to review them, and then we could discuss clarifying or additional information she needed. I recommend that this be standard practice.

I had a spot on my neck and was concerned, so I wanted to find out what was going on. I was about to go out of town, so I needed to get an appointment within the next two days. Surprisingly, it was easy to schedule an appointment at a time that was convenient for me. I went to the appointment and was greeted by a very pleasant receptionist. As a new patient, I filled out my paperwork and waited about 5 minutes before they called me to see the doctor. Dr. Holmes diagnosed my problem, took a culture and gave me some cream to apply to the effected area. I was very pleased with the entire experience. I wouldn't use any other dermatologist and you shouldn't either.

Though this is not the first dermatologist is my life, but this is the best. I come for routine chronic conditions and some cosmetic reasons, but I get to decide what is important. I visit with the Dr. and PA both, and have no issues or complaints about my care. My skin is happy and I visit every 3 weeks or more often if needed -- I am grateful for good doctors and self-directed care with kind and gentle guidance from skilled health care professionals.

And spent the entire time talking about a drug that was very expensive and required bloodwork and routine office visits that would be very costly to be as a patient. I also asked about laser hair removal and she said she would have someone come in and talk to me about it and she never did. I started asking her about a cyst on my shoulder and she said I needed a new appt for her to examine it. It was my first time back in over a year with new insurance and new issues that she didn't even ask about. I will not be returning and I will not be referring. As a minority I wanted to support a minority doc but in this case I just cannot.

Never saw the doctor after waiting 25 minutes past my appointment time. My appointment was for 1pm, but the ladies at the front desk were not back from lunch yet. Had to wait for someone from the back to come out. The PA was very nice. The office is at a great location and easy to find near the metro, but I'm not sure I'd want to come back for another appointment.

My visit felt rushed, inattentive and glossed over. It started with judgmental comment from a physician's assistant who looked at my dermatological concern and said ' ugh, jeez". A comment that someone seeking medical help would absolutely not like to hear. In fact, it was unacceptable. Conversation with the doctor was pleasant but felt rushed and generic, without presenting me with a well-deserved care and attention. Finally and without any further due, while administering several injections, the doctor did not wear any protective latex glows potentially exposing herself and me to various infections and risks. Shocking, unacceptable, crossing accepted medical standards. All together, I will not be returning to Washington DC Dermatology and suggest others not to as well.

Dr Holmes is superb as a dermatologist and able to refer you to other excellent doctors in other fields. She is very nice and listens to your concerns and you leave thinking your situation is not as bad as you thought and you have a treatment plan she's laid out for you. Then before you know it just as she said positive changes occur and when you stick with it in due time a problem that you felt was life changing like losing your hair is fixed and you have a full healthy head of hair. And it's thanks to Dr Holmes treatment course, her reminders to stay positive, and just little but important things she tells you do or not do that make a huge difference. I love her and I've recommended her to anyone who I think needs her help.

My appointment with the PA, Caroline,was excellent. She was knowledgeable friendly and spent the time to really discuss my options for my concerns. No downside there (keep up the great work Caroline); however, the professionalism of the front desk staff was HORRIBLE. First and foremost, I completed the paperwork online with ZocDoc and notified the receptionist of such. I told her to please check and without bothering to check while i was standing there, she said "I already did, it's not there, fill these out and someone will be with you". REALLY?!? That's how patients are treated. Immediately she went back to talking with the other front desk receptionist as if I was never there. I have never been so disrespected by a receptionist in my life. If it wasn't for the great service from the PA I would NEVER show my face back there again or waste my time and energy to refer friends/family to this location. Highly suggest you hire better front desk staff.

When I arrived at the office, there was no receptionist in sight for a good 15 minutes, and in that time, about 8 other people showed up for their appointments too so this office needs to work on their timeliness and customer service on the front line. My appointment itself was extremely short and brisk--it felt very rushed. The doctor hardly looked at my rash--more like a glance from where she was sitting, not even an up-close inspection--and quickly proceeded to prescribe some medications--the type of medications that have not been very helpful thus far in ongoing treatment of my problem. I will probably keep shopping around for another dermatologist after this visit.

I noticed that your forms ask "Have you been exposed to HIV?" I'm not sure what information that question is meant to gather--many people have been exposed to HIV, whether they have been aware of it or whether they have contracted the virus. I assume that what you meant to ask was whether your patient is living with HIV. If that is the case, it should be included in the list of health conditions along with heart disease, etc. I would recommend that you revise the wording of that question so that it gathers the information you're seeking and so that you don't unintentionally reinforce stigma around HIV by separating it out from all other health condition questions.

The medicine provided to me by Dr. Holmes wrecked havoc on my skin as the doctor did not understand my skin and specific needs. I had rashes, pimples, and itching on my face due to using the skin tone pads. I had to immediately stop using the medicine and put tea tree oil to control the reaction. The doctor should have given more instructions or spent more time understanding my skin so that she could prescribe me a suitable medicine for sensitive skin. I will not be recommending this clinic or doctor to anyone.

I think it's important for patients to meet the doctor. I was a new patient and never even laid eyes on the doctor. The PA had a wonderful disposition and if it weren't my first visit, I would have been fine with just seeing her. However, I was expecting at least a cursory few minutes with the doctor as I selected her based on her expertise with African-American skin/hair. New patients should at least garner an introduction and be seen by the doctor on the initial consult. I'm open to being seen by the PA after.

It's great that you're sending out surveys. 1. There are numerous spelling errors on your website, which would have typically caused me to not move forward with an appointment, but I proceeded because Dr. Holmes and her team came highly referred. 2. I came during the Wednesday happy hour special which is a great idea! Note: without the 20% discount, my microdermabrasion would have cost more than Cultura (they charge $150 without a facial, $195 with one). I point them out because they're notoriously expensive. Further, another company I considered also charges $150. 3. I mentioned the spelling errors on the website. There is also one on your in-office signage, and a few if the new client paperwork. I mentioned this to Nicole and Ivory - both said they're aware of the website issues, and the team is working to resolve them. Both also said that they did not notice the misspelled word in the office signage (the word clearance in the glass case). I can't recall if they said they were aware of the errors in the paperwork. 4. Not sure who she was but someone else who worked there began having a conversation on speakerphone, possibly about another patient. I can't recall the details but do recall thinking how unprofessional it was for a call to be on speaker near where patients were waiting. We didn't need to hear the conversation, and it was unnecessary for the call to be placed on speaker at all. It's the same as client's talking on the phone in your waiting area; there's a sign in your lobby requesting that we turn off our phones yet a member of your team puts her phone on speaker. Not good (this was my first time to your office so I don't know who the lady was but she had on a red and white striped dress and was leaving for the day. This was around 6:45 pm. 5. My appointment was for 7:30. I arrived at 6:40, yet was not seen until 8pm. 6. Ivory was very nice and provided me with some great information. Overall, my first experience with this office was not the best, and although the team did acknowledge the website issues, the fact that other errors existed in the office that they did not see, coupled with the speaker phone issue, cost and lack of timeliness, does not make me feel comfortable about keeping my next appointment

My mucocele was incorrectly diagnosed as a cyst and punched without the use of a clamp resulting in an biopsy that MISSED the main pseudo-cyst site. Extremely disappointed with quality of care, training, and professionalism. Was never greeted by the main doctor only until AFTER I complained about the quality of my treatment. When I asked why the clamp was not used in the first place, received a curt response of "I just did not train my PA to use it, she did not even know what it was". Highly unprofessional, poor training for staff, and overall careless care provided.

I was disappointed with the lack of examination, questioning, and lack of treatment information/explanation/what the treatment approach is going to be, etc., regarding the issues I was coming in for. The Doctors were very quick to grab the prescription pad and just go down the list and prescribe creams. The Doctor didn't explain what the prescription actually were or how it would help. After I got home and started reading the literature for a spray, it says it was to treat psoriasis, and what I came for was hair loss (??). Again, since the doctor didn't explain anything about the treatment (other than possible side effects), i'm clueless and not confident in following treatment. The last treatment left my skin looking old and dry and didn't fix the acne problem. The consultation (i've been to 2 visits) were rushed and not thorough. It was the least interactive Dr visit I've ever been to and makes me question the quality of the treatments.

I thought I could get a better diagnosis from webMD. The doctor looked at my issue and promptly said that she couldn't identify it without a biopsy. Later in the conversation she mentioned things that had the same symptoms that I described at the beginning. Although I saw the similarities, apparently without a biopsy there was no way to make an assessment or even an education diagnosis. If I only wanted the symptoms treated, I could have gotten OTC medication and saved some money. At least the appointment didn't take long.

Shingles is an absolutely horrible condition. It would have been very helpful if Dr. Holmes had suggested some of the over-the-counter products available to ease the pain, help heal sores and reduce scarring. There are products on the market that do help a lot. Patients need to be advised. When you have shingles, the pain can be so severe that you can't think straight--even about ways to ease the pain or reduce the symptoms or the after effects of the condition! I think that Dr. Holmes is great, and she would be great-er to provide a list of some products that would help. My own research turned up "Shingles" cream helps the shingles pain a lot during the most active stage; cocoa butter and coconut oil both help the skin re the healing process and scarring. The cocoa butter and coconut oi are not expensive at all. That's good since it needs to be used daily for several months.

I think it would be helpful to perform analysis using the before and after pictures to determine the results of the Body FX treatments, and other weight loss and shaping treatments. Also measurements of areas being treated (ex, abs, arms, legs, etc) taken prior to treatment and afterwards is another analysis tools to determine results. These results should be passed on to the patient to determine success rates..

Barely saw dr Holmes. Was almost misdiagnosed, luckily I had done some research and asked about that. Only then did dr Holmes see me and quickly prescribed me medicine. Did not ask about my condition, explain causes, or take anytime to explain medication. Not worth my money for that kind of service.

My appointment was rushed. The doctor came in finishing a bite of food which I found unprofessional. It was briefly looked at then just given a cream. I additionally asked about a cosmetic dermatology problem which I know I would be willing to spend money on a laser/cosmetic procedure. However, I was just quickly suggested an over the counter cream which does not work from my experience already. My stretch marks were not even looked at after asking about advice for removal. I would have preferred more time spent with me. I was the only person in the office -- I know I could have been given more attention. I most likely will not return. The only reason my experience was somewhat valued was because the cream I was prescribed for my eczema has already shown a great improvement.

The doctor was very kind but lacked knowledge about my illness, actually making suggestions that would have worked my condition. However, she did listen and try to understand. She phoned in an prescription to my pharmacy, but apparently there was a problem with it. The pharmacy tried repeatedly to contact her office, using the number given, but never got a response. This, I attribute to the fact that the number on the prescription was to the general switchboard, not one to her office. This is a problem with GW. In general, I was disappointed by the visit and would not recommend GW to anyone.

I went to see Dr Caroline who recommended the laser mole removal process. I was assured that there would be no issues with scarring, etc. and that everything would be back to normal in 4-5 days. It's now been about 10 days and while the moles are gone scarring/light spots are present at each location. A few areas the skin is depressed where it seems the laser might have gone too deep and one of the spots looks like it is starting to Keloid. I've been calling the office the past few days to try to chat with Dr Holmes about my options going forward for treatment but the line is always busy. I would love if someone could follow up as soon as possible. Thank you.

The only think I would to see change is that when I come I would like to see Dr. Yolanda Holmes. That's who I am paying to see. I am not saying her assistant doesn't do a good job because she is excellent. But it makes me feel like my acne situation isn't important to her and she has other important clients. I am just as important. My sole reason for choosing Dr. Holmes was based off of the fact that she was African American and she could help me with my acne and acne scars because I didn't want anyone to tell me something that could harm my face because acne solutions are important for all different skin types.

I was not happy having to return to the office for 4 pills, and having to pay $10.00 to park, (just to get 4 pills) then find out (when arrived at the Pharmacy) I had a precription for the generic product. The doctor was very friendly and willingly answered all of my questions. I think over time the office will warm up to new faces. I do not like the policy regarding being late because if the physician is late he/she does not expect to pay me $75.00 for my time.

When the doctor visited me at 12:35pm, she failed to listen where I wanted the botox placed. The botox had no effect because it was placed in the wrong location in my hair line. I am highly disappointed and would like a refund.

I had a horrible experience. The front desk staff was unfriendly and told me I had forms to fill out even though I had already completed them online. I waited about 30 minutes for my appointment and then was seen by a Physician Assistant for approximately 1 minute. The PA did not ask for any previous medical history or even seem interested when I said I had been self treating my skin for the past few years. She took one look at my face and goes, "probably just acne, I'll write you a script." I have a family history of eczema and have had eczema on my hands, feet and face, and was prescribed eczema medication at the last dermatologist 5yrs ago, but she just goes, "that's not it." Did not explain in any detail what she was prescribing me or what kind of results I should expect and did not bother talking me through what she was seeing.I also went to pick up the prescription immediately following the appointment and was charged $80 by CVS which would have been nice to know.

Receptionist took 3 PTS before me who came in after I did and then asked if anything had changed even though when I signed in, I indicated things had changed, ie, home address, ins and employer. Was late for next appt and had to pay late fee as was well past appt time.

I am frustrated with my recent appointment. My most recent appointment was a follow up appointment. I had a spot on my face removed a few months ago and the first time I had it removed, it was only partially removed and eventually grew back. At this last appointment I was told that the treatment used last time was not aggressive enough and this time we would freeze it off. Two days later, the spot is still there and it doesn't look like anything has been done to it, no blister, no puffiness, the spot looks exactly the same as it did when I came in. I don't know what I just paid for. I am not confident that the problem has been resolved and now I just have an ugly scar on my face. I have been coming to this practice for over 6 years and I think this will be my last appointment. Very disappointing.

I visited Washington DC Dermatology about a month ago looking to alleviate some of the breakout and scarring issues I've been having with my skin.When I arrived I noticed that one of the receptionist had a very negative attitude which diminished my impression of the entire office. When my name was finally called, I walked to the back assuming that I would be consulted by Dr.Holmes. But instead I was seen by someone else who within less than 5minutes perscribed me medication that has yet to bring about results in my skin.She never really gave my condition a good look and I felt that she lacked the cultural perspective needed to properly deal with skin of color. All in all, after nearly a month and about $100 worth of prescribed medication I am very disappointed in both the quality of service and the results that I have yet to see. I hope to have better luck with this office in the future.

I was there for a full body check. After receiving a small paper peice of paper, I waited for the doctor. When she came in she instroduced a medical student (I was NOT asked if I was comfortable with her staying) She then basically pulled the paper sheet off me leaving me entirely exposed the whole time! I was clearly uncomforbale and she did not seem to care. I've never ever been to a dermetologis that goes this- usually they expose one part of the body at a time. When it was over they didn't even give me the sheet back- it was horrible. Then I asked about a specific mole I was worried about. She didn't even get up from 3 feet away and sort of shrugged! Seriously??? This was the worst doctor experience I have ever had!!

Considering what she suggested my next steps were, I made the decision to not return and seek a second opinion at a doctor's office that seems to take more time and care with their patients.

However, the young lady who showed me to the room once my name was called was rude and unfriendly. I also had to call the office shortly after my appointment regarding my prescriptions where I spoke to Crystal who was equally as rude on the telephone. Since the young lady who ushered me to my room did not identify herself, I am not sure if there were two people in the office who lacked professionalism and a good attitude or just one.

I am incredibly frustrated that my acne situation is not improving. I am on my 4th medication to make it go away. Perhaps I should have gotten a second opinion a long time ago. :( I guess Dr. Holmes has listened to my past concerns but with the situation not improving 5 months into Zenatane, I am just feeling like my situation and me have fallen through the cracks and it's my problem I'll just have to live with throughout adulthood. It's mentally and emotionally taxing to have severe adult acne. It's upsetting to pay lots of money and spend so much time trying to remedy it and the problem doesn't improve.

I was charged directly for my procedure (electrocoagulation on a spider angioma) instead of insurance company, and i'm not fully sure why. I contacted my insurance company (Aetna) afterward and they told me that the procedure was covered and that they should have been billed. i called the billing department for Washington Dermatology and left a voicemail to see how to rectify the matter.

I waited to see a dr, got my skin cancer screening, then sat for another 30 min to see anyone about my acne. They had forgotten I was even in the room, and had totally ignored the fact that I explained to the nurse I needed an acne consultation. I had two prescriptions, and took both to get filled. One came back at over $600. It would've nice going in to know one of the prescriptions she gave me was going to break the bank. I am not willing to spend that kind of money on acne gel. I would have to say my experience was less than perfect. I need a dermatologist in the area...I wish I had found a better one who was more welcoming!

I haven't seen Dr. Holmes in about three years. Dr. Holmes seems more interested in cosmetic skin care vs. really medical issues. It's a shame she continues to be rated as a Top Dermatology by the Washintonian and other magazines. How can she be a top doctor, if she doesn't practice anymore. If my memory serves correctly, for the past two years I have seen several Physician Assistants come and go from this practice. It pains me to see my insurance is billed for Dr. Holmes but she doesn't see me anymore. Also, the Physician Assistants are writing prescriptions under Dr. Holmes name. I'm certain this is illegal and a state board violation. My Physician Assistant didn't seem interested in my problem and only spent about 3 minutes with me. She didn't really examine my scalp or provide instructions on how to use the treatment.
