Halloween came early here in the Vail Valley when I experienced a hemorrhage in my left eye. My eyes are blue and one-half of the visible whites in my eye became a dark blood red. Women and children would run (screaming) in the opposite direction whenever they saw my freakish eye. I wish my Delta-Variant facemask had covered my eyes too. Fortunately for me, I had the expertise of Dr. Duong on my side. She informed me that broken blood vessels in the eye are quite common. In two weeks, my "Frankenstein" eye-ball would clear-up all by itself. I truly appreciate the way Dr. Duong shares her in-depth knowledge and I love her enthusiasm! She takes her time by educating her patients on how to maintain healthy eye care. I highly recommend Dr. Duong to friends and neighbors who are struggling with issues pertaining to their eye-sight. I am very please to recommend Vail Vision and Dr. James to any and all Vail Valley locals and visitors alike. I had a very painful and infected stye in my right eye and after a quick stop at the Colorado Mountain Medical Urgent Care in Avon I was happily referred to Vail Vision in Edwards, CO and the next morning I dropped in and within minutes I was in the chair and given the “White Glove”level of service second to none. 2 days later and some topical medicine and I am happy to report my eye is rapidly on the mend. Thank you Dr. James and a huge “Thumbs Up!!” To your entire staff for taking such great care of me. Ryan - Vail Valley Resident

Excellent provider, easy and relaxed environment while being extremely professional. My only suggestion is to avoid the “hard sell”:with glasses following the appointment. It would be better to ask the client if they are interested rather than directing them to sales area where they are asked to wait for assistance.

Dr. James is a great guy. He takes his time to explain the issues with my eyes. He goes over options and lets you decide what you want to try. I just love going to this office and my entire family are now patients here. Additionally, Stephanie was able to adjust my current glasses in such way that I am now able to wear them for the full day without pain. I have been trying to adjust them myself for months and had no success. She took them off of me for 5 minutes and fixed it all. The entire staff is great!

I’ve always had a good experience when going to vail vision. This last trip stands out because I got contacts for the first time and also ordered a few new pairs of glasses. Not only was Dr. James very informative and knowledgeable, but the rest of the staff was awesome too. I learned how to put contacts in, the woman who showed me was very patient and nice, I really appreciated that. Then ordering my glasses was a breeze too, another woman helped me pick some out she thought I would like and then talked me through all the options with patience and kindness. This is the best eye clinic I’ve ever seen. Awesome people, awesome care, all around would recommend to a friend or family.

They are timely and very complete in the appointment. The Dr takes time for questions and answers. Very helpful with all the reminders for the appointment. I have been a patient for 5 years and am very satisfied. I have other health concerns that affect my vision. Dr.Owens takes the time to send my results for other diagnostic eye exams that he performs to the appropriate physicians when needed.

Dr Owens is wonderful. His Techs made an error, the outcome of which made my blood pressure rise - my left eye saw a blurry large E. Luckily, Dr Owens had another different test done and it was correct. I am always unhappy with the xtra charge to upgrade the eye dilation. The eyeglass selection out of picket costs are exorbitant. But more importantly, the tech helping me with frames was not much help in my choices. She was fidgety and must have been late for something. I did not feel taken care of well. I felt rushed.

I’ve been coming here for about 8 years ans really like all the doctors and staff. However, I got new insurance this year, provided that when I scheduled my appointment. No one told me that insurance wasn’t accepted until I was there for my appointment. I would have gone somewhere else for my annual exam. This is just unfortunate.

I called ahead as I was on my way to give a courtesy heads up that I was running about 10 minutes late for my appointment. I work full-time, Monday-Friday so I had to leave work early for the appointment... however I had a meeting that was unavoidable run a little bit late. When I called to let the desk know that I was running late, I was met with an attitude from the girl who answered the phone saying there was a very strict 10 minute late policy. I told her I would try my best to get there on time. I arrived right at the 10 minute late mark and they had to ask permission for me to be seen. I could tell how bothered the staff was as well as the doctor that I was a little bit late; the exam process was rushed, no friendly interaction with the doctor besides a hello...seemed more like they wanted to close up for the evening than give a patient the time of day.

Danielle - I understand that it can be frustrating. December is typically our busiest month, so sometimes we forget to show passion for life happening! That sounds like what happened here. Especially because you called us to give us a heads up, which is greatly appreciated. I hope you are able to see us again and your experience is more traditional to what we provide. Educating and not making our patients feel rushed is our main concern. I apologize you didn't feel that and again I hope you give us another chance.

Really nice spot, and incredibly friendly and helpful staff, but I had scheduled for a contact and glasses fitting and I guess they forgot to do any of the contacts stuff while I was in with the doc, I was not made aware of this until after I was out in the floor getting fired for frames. It's quite frustrating to have to schedule a second appointment and spend another few weeks waiting to get in on my off days.

I did not expect to be charged $169 for an eye exam. My pulmomogist referred me to Vail Vision for a simple eye exam before I go on 3 antibiotics 3x a week for 18 months. I was referred for an eye exam as a baseline so they can see any damage to my eyes from the meds. We are elderly and don't have much money. Thought it would be covered by medicare. Very shocked by the fee.

Eileen, I apologize for any confusion. We try to explain all pricing prior to treatment so a patient is aware. Unfortunately medicare only covers specific circumstances and apply to very few patients for vision coverage.

I was made to feel exceedingly uncomfortable by what transpired after my exam. I was told by Dr. James that I may have a very small retina hole or tear but the Dr’s office I was referred to acted as if it was an emergency and should come in immediately. They had not even seen the photo of my eye so how did it turn from a very small hole that may or may not need treatment to something entirely different in a matter of minutes and with no exam? I will be seeking secondary treatment elsewhere and perhaps you should talk to them about how they handled this.

Dr. James is fantastic, thorough and caring. He explains everything and makes time to answer any questions. Very much appreciated! Small issue with billing worth mentioning - contact fitting fee was charged when there was no change in my eyes, the prescription and I’ve been at this office for many years. It was sort of breezed over in the check out and seems that if it is routine it should be fully covered by VSP. I do not remember this charge in the past. Also, in terms of the contact coverage by VSP and your pricing, it seems that it should cover a full year’s worth of contacts. I was given the option to get fewer and leave insurance $ on the table or pay more out of pocket. Seems like pricing is a bit wacky somewhere. This is just the administrative stuff, as I’ve said, Dr. James’ Carr and professionalism is far and away some of the best I’ve experienced.

This office and eye doctor are on top of their game in every way. They are reliable with the insurance claims and I have never run into a snag. Their billing is accurate and efficient. He always takes his time to explain things fully.

While the doctor did a good job explaining what was wrong with my eye, she did not use any medical terminology or provide me with a paper explaining my treatment to take home. If I didn’t pull out my phone and take notes I’m not sure I would have remembered what she said. I also personally like to know medical terminology so I can further research it myself or have it for the future. My biggest problem was she asked the receptionist twice to put in my information so she could schedule my follow up and also to put in my prescription to Walgreens in front of me. I stood there for a second and said “I’m going to head to Walgreens now because it’s on my way home”. Well I sat in my car for 45 minutes in the Walgreens parking lot to give them time to fill my prescription. When I went in they said the doctor hadn’t even sent it over yet. So I sat and waited for 45 minutes AGAIN before the pharmacist said the office never sent the nsi# and she had called and asked me to call. I called 10 times with no answer and almost drove back to Vail Vision because your office closes at 4 and it was about 3 and without that I could not get my prescription. While I thought it was because I was a new patient the pharmacist told me your office has sent over the prescription incorrectly and without the information she needed. This is extremely unsettling to me as a new patient. I walked out of your office at 1:17. I walked into Walgreens at 2. I didn’t not leave with my prescription until 3:15 due to them not having the nsi#. I thought I gave plenty of time before I went into Walgreens but for them to say your office hadn’t sent my prescription yet, when I said I was going right there, and waited 45 minutes in my car to give the process time but to find out you hadn’t even sent it over yet is unacceptable - especially when the pain in my eye felt drastically worse after my appointment. While I’m willing to still vail vision a try, this is definitely a bad way to start off a new patient.

David - I apologize that this occurred. We want to help our patients to the best of our ability and I understand why you feel let down. There are broken glasses that cannot be fixed and it's almost impossible to find a frame that will fit lenses unless it's the exact frame, which we may not carry. With that said, it should have been explained to you in detail so that you have all of your options. Additionally, I am not sure why we would not be able to contact your pervious eye doctor. I will reach out to our staff and follow-up. Again, I apologize for your experience as we know how important it is to see!

I was in for a another eye-scan, the technician was thorough, although she did not notice that the printer failed to print on one side of the paper. Dr. James explained the results and reassured me. He also reminded me to come in for my regular eye exam in the spring.

My eye was very irritated - it felt like something was in it. I was able to get in to Vail Vision very quickly. Dr. Schneider found a tiny metal flake. They removed it and the rust ring, told me what they were doing and what to expect and prescribed antibiotic eye drops and OTC tear drops. Upon a followup visit three days later i was feeling and doing much better.

I have been a customer of Vail Vision for almost 20 years. They have always had very competent doctors with the very latest equipment. The office staff is friendly and efficient. Appointments are easy to make and waiting times are kept to a minimum. The selection of frames is excellent. I always feel respected. Today I needed a simple eye test for a driver's license. They fit me into the schedule and quickly administered the test, filled out the DMV form and had me on my way in 15 minutes.

After being seated to wait purchase my (expensive) glasses there was a woman in the area but she would not acknowledge me. A "someone will be right with you" would be nice.

The staff is great! Dr. Owens spends as much time with you as you need to ensure your questions are answered. I was referred to Mile High Eye Institute for my LASIK consultation, which they do monthly at Vail Valley Vision, a nice option for those who are considering the procedure. I went for my consultation at their office on a Friday and was able to schedule the LASIK procedure with Mile High Institute at their Denver office on a Monday. Appreciated the referral from Vail Valley Vision!

My daughter (3 years old) went in for an eye exam. She has had an eye infection and swelling for about about a week. When we first went in my daughter started crying and the kind girls at the front offered her a lollipop and that made her feel better (and me less frustrated). Then we were checked in by one of the doctors assistants and she was very kind and listened to everything we explained. The Dr. was amazing! He didn’t scare my daughter and made us feel very comfortable. We left very happy and pleased with the service we were provided.

Donna, we do have some men in our office, but they move to our other office sometimes and are not always there. Also - yes! There are multifocal lenses. Success rates very from patient to patient, but you are more than welcome to come in and try them!

I do not think I’ve ever been treated the way I was yesterday during my appointment. The staff was super quick and friendly. They offered me water and my results were explained to me and overall I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Office staff, MD, and the person helping fit my glasses when they arrived were all attentive and helpful. Was hoping the person that helped pick out a style/pair was helpful. She did not offer style choices or recommendations, just wanted to know which glasses I wanted. I didn't even know where to start. She seemed to need to leave, putting on her jacket as she took my credit card. Thankfully I like the glasses, they fit well, and the guy helped fit them to my face very well. Do wonder what my choices could have been.

During my eye exam, the doctor said I didn't need to change my prescription; however, only my right eye was used in the phoropter. So I had to ask if my left eye should be tested in the phoropter too, as the phoropter was used on both eyes in all my previous exams there.

Very rude and unpleasant, they were claiming that I was late 30 min and I was in the waiting room filling the paper works that they gave me. I was examined by a doctor in trainig and I scheduled with a difrent doctor. I have not exaggerated anything in this review. Not going there anymore

Your feedback is very important to us and in the future we will notify our patients if they will be seen by a different doctor than the one they were scheduled to see. Additionally, we have started scheduling the doctor in training 45min per appointment to avoid the long wait like you experienced.
