I've been going to NVDO for 10-ish years. Love the office and the staff knows what they are doing! The doctors are professional and I've never had a problem with them. I will continue to take my eye problems to them, no question! Fees are reasonable, too!

I love this eye doctor! From scheduling the appointment to picking up new prescription glasses, I always have a pleasant experience. Everyone who works there appears to enjoy it and care about giving the best service to each patient. It's also quite nice that I no longer need to have my eyes dilated periodically!

I am so pleased with Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry, Dr. Giles, and her support staff. I went in for a routine contact exam but mentioned I'd been having some problems and everyone took my concerns very seriously. I received an extremely thorough exam and was referred to another doctor to further investigate my issues. At other practices where I brought up the same issues, I was just given contacts, sent on my way and told that this was the best they could do for me. It was so incredibly refreshing to be taken seriously and treated with care and concern. I am recommending NVDO to all my friends and family precisely because of the level of care, time and understanding I received.

Great eye doctor's office! - I have only ever met with Dr. Snively so my review is reflective of her and the team's great work! They are all incredibly professional, appointments run on time, and they take time to assess broader eye health during the annual check. In addition, they offer great weekday evening options and weekend slots so I can see them even though I work in DC. They also help me find good contact lenses that both fit my needs and budget.

Firstly, the technician and the Doctor who did my exam were very impersonal. I left there feeling like I had just been part of some robotic training. It's a shame nowadays that Doctors feel they need to keep patients at arms length and not get personal. This place takes first place in staff with zero personality and needs to take some lessons on asking patients some questions to break the ice - and maybe, just maybe, adding in a smile wouldn't hurt either. Furthermore, upon checkout, though I was advised of the $39.99 extra fee for the diagnostic exam there was an additional fee of $29.00 that wasn't disclosed - (and the extra charge for trying on contact lenses - which I didn't do) these charges on top of the "regular" eye visit charge of $125. This should be disclosed up front upon making the appointment. I felt I was getting nickel and dimed. I'm surprised they don't charge to adjust your glasses! Would not come back again.

After having a couple of iffy interactions with one of the optometrists (which resulted in my lens being incorrectly ground and about 2mm off, and my having to wear these glasses for 2 years), I was given by Dr. Kim to Brian. Brian did a phenomenal job fitting me to my new glasses, and even found the 2mm discrepancy which confirmed my suspicions. He made me aware of a different tint of Transitions, which I instantly chose, and finally made me have great anticipation for my new set of glasses - arriving in about a week. Can't wait! No more squinting my left eye!!

I recently relocated to Reston and visited this office for the first time. I was scheduled with Dr Kim who I found to be very professional, friendly, excellent listener and bedside manner. I have been an RN in the health field for 30 years, therefore I am very particular about the health care provider and services I receive. I would recommend Dr Kim and the entire staff to anyone looking for Optometry services. I also enjoyed choosing my eyeglasses with the help of the eye wear staff. They were also friendly and took interest in helping me choose the right glasses.

Came in to get a check-up due to becoming more near-sighted. Set an appointment for about a week later. On the day of the appointment, I arrived on-time and was attended to within 5 minutes of checking in. All of the tests were understandable and the staff members accommodated my needs. Getting a new pair of glasses in a few days! Had a decent time, for a check-up.

My annual eye exam......I would like to thank the staff at Reston's NVDO for making my checkup meaningful. They take customer service to the next level, from the time I arrived for my appointment the front staff were very attentive and customer focused. Dr. Kim was awesome in her detailed check up and cared about my health and how that could affect my vision. I was given great medical advice and offered no pressure options. I was able to close my appointment out with John who helped find the right pair of glasses that was affordable and looked good too. He took his time to see that my choices were addressed and with patience I found what I wanted. Overall I would recommend the NVDO office in Reston, VA if you are new to the area or looking for a place that takes care of you and the family.

I broke my glasses that I had for years and was in need of new glasses as well as a new prescription. I was able to schedule a morning appointment with Dr. Snavely the next day, where I received my new prescription and new glasses! They were able to make lenses for my glasses in house! I have been a client of NVDO for almost 11 years (Since Jan 2007). I chose NVDO is because they are partnered or associated with TLC Lasik Center where I got my lasik procedure. I am really happy that I've found and chosen NVDO. I first saw a couple of DRs there and ended up with Dr. Sparrenberger. I love that he is outgoing, friendly and professional. He makes the whole eye exam experience fun, and he is an experienced optometrist. He is patient and answers all my questions. The check in/out staff and Clinical Technician are friendly and helpful. The Opticians there can be good, depending who I worked with. I am very picky about how my glasses sit on my face. A year ago, Oct 2016, there were 2 opticians that helped me (1 female and 1 male), the male optician is the best. The female one seemed impatient and in a hurry, and she expected me to settle with the adjustments she made. I ended up going to the male optician, who was more concerned with how I like the glasses to fit, and he was more of a perfectionist. After 1-2 adjustments, the glasses fit perfectly, the way I want them to. I feel like he and I are on the same page. NVDO also has a great selection of eyewear - glasses and sunglasses. I love the Kate Spade glasses and the Maui Jim Sunglasses, both prescription, from NVDO. I have a pair of Oakley that I got somewhere else, and NVDO is able to send my Oakley sunglasses to Oakley to have new prescription lenses put in. I am already eyeballing a pair of Maui Jim that I plan on getting next Summer. It takes about 2 weeks for all prescription glasses to be ready. I highly recommend NVDO. If you're looking for a great and experienced optometrist who is outgoing, Dr Sparrenberger is the one for you.

Dr. Giles is Fantastic! Efficient and still very thorough. I had several questions and she took the time to answer every one, and she helped me with my dry eye issue. I highly recommend Dr. Giles. On the office/admin side, I do wish the online appointment system actually worked. I've tried to use it a few times and never receive a follow-up to actually schedule the appointment, but receive auto-email after auto-email reminding me that it is time for my annual exam.

I have found my new Optometrist. This place incredible...the staff was very helpful and courteous. Brian Quinn is a wealth of knowledge in sports optics.....he helped get me fitted in a great pair of Rudy Project cycling glasses that would accept my outrageous prescription. Dr. Smithson was right on point with what I was needing and provided great information on the right style of glasses that would meet my prescription needs. They also have a great selection of name brand glasses for any style or fashion need.

After my eye exam, where I was pushed to add on retinal imaging for additional charge, they then pushed me to purchase only the most expensive lens and coating options without reviewing other alternatives. It was the end of their business day, so I understand that they were interested in leaving. It was obvious that the person helping me was more interested in his commission than serving his customer. It should be expected that customers will need time to select frames and should be offered options other than the most expensive. In the end it was my fault for signing on the dotted line but I am very disappointed with my experience. The (most expensive) coating that was requested by my optometrist also results in a blue mirroring that I was not warned about and would not have chosen. It causes a glare off of the back of the lenses that is distracting. They also said that I had no coverage for a second pair of glasses and would need to return with more documentation at a later time. As a federal employee I have many options for vision coverage and I had specifically chosen an insurance option for offering 40% off a second pair of glasses. I knew that I had the coverage and guessed that this would be easily resolved once I brought in my insurance documents with details. When I returned 3 days later to show them the documentation, they said that they don't deal with submitting claims to the insurance company and that I would have to pay up front without knowing how much would actually be covered. The insurance company told me earlier that day that previous customers had used the discount for a second pair of glasses and this location had submitted to insurance. The two women that were working at that time were very short with me and were not willing to try to get to the root of the problem. It almost seemed that they were just trying to make me go away. When I picked up my glasses, these two women were equally brief and not friendly.

As for the opticians, they are awesome. I'm horrible at picking out frames, so they offer advice that is always spot on

This is a very professional office from the Office Manager, to the Technician to Dr. Snively. All personnel are TOP NOTCH and very knowledgeable in their fields. Patients are treated with respect and kindness. They understand that seniors are on a budget and work with you on insurance etc. I find Dr. Snively more thorough and detailed in her examinations than any Eye Doctor I have gone to. She explains issues in great detail and goes over x-rays etc. so the patient understands her eye issues.

I had an appointment for general check on February 7th. The stuff and Doctor Jiles were very professional, polite and caring. However, my glasses didn't come in on the time. Plus, I was told to come pick up the glasses on Wednesday, when showed up and waiting 30 min cause they couldn't find my glasses, it appeared that glasses were not ready until Friday. Quite unpleasant experience on this side, especially that no one felt anyhow responsible or carrying to apologise for the experience. Finally, they offered to change lenses for free on a different pair of glasses. I will take the offer, but have to say politeness is obviously not the strongest side of the technician Jones

I took my 86 yo mother and the staff couldn't have been more pleasant. The three working the desk (a southern man, the lefty(!) and the red haired woman) all were polite, efficient and personable. The best was Dimitri who was very kind to my mom, explained things, was deferential to her without being stiff and was extremely helpful as she is not mobile and we needed some manpower to get her in and out of the exam chair. Dr Snively opened with a wonderful story of her name (same as my mother's) which broke the ice. We were shown how the last glasses prescription from another company did not take into account my mother's astigmatism proving what my mom felt all along: they just don't work. And the crack in my mother's current eyeglass lenses? It was actually thin monofilament that slipped out of a groove and ran across the face of a lens appearing to be a crack. The optician fixed it for free. We have extreme confidence in the service and professionalism of this office. Would highly recommend to anyone.

I was totally satisfied with my first experience at the Reston office. Dr. Giles did the most extensive exam I have ever had. She was very professional as well as attentive to my concerns. The staff was also very helpful. I wasn't "steered" to frames that usually did not sell good, as I have been at other pratices. I was able to select the pair I wanted without being pushed or rushed. Then, and only then did the staff amke suggestions as to how they looked on me and showed me similiar pairs to compare with. I plan on staying with the Reston office.

I am extremely nearsighted and come in annually for a check to be sure my peepers are at their healthiest best. Saw Dr. Kim and was very unimpressed. Felt she was very pushy trying to convince me to change my prescription. I told her I was happy with my eyesight and having no problems whatsoever. It was a routine annual visit. I told her if that was her philosophy to try and change prescriptions each visit she was not going to be a good fit for me. I honestly don't know if I'd come back.

Dr. Briceno is nothing less than the absolute ideal doctor. Her patient care skills are second to none. The Plaza America facility is large and the staff is mostly set way back from the entrance. When it's busy it's hard to know where to start. Would you consider a little sign hanging over the long sign in desk by the back wall that says "Check in here first" or something like that?

This is the second time I have experienced less than adequate service from your staff. This time, I had lost complete vision in one eye (ended up seeing ophthalmologist and retinal specialist) and ebony and other staff members would not let me speak to dr sparrenberger or any of the technicians, nor would they book an appointment for me less than two weeks out. I plan to take my business, my daughter, my husband and two friends that I previously referred to this office to see another optometrist. Not worth the headache to deal with your inadequate, off putting staff. I think Dr Sparrenberger is excellent and I hope he receives this information

The Dr. was great. I have problem with the insurance. Although my insurance said the doctor was in network and a yearly eye exam is covered by my insurance I ended up paying $249 dollars for the exam and contact fitting. I don't understand why my vision insurance with Blue Cross Blue Shield would not apply for this visit. I have been going to this place for five years and really like the staff and Drs. and have recommended the office to friends and family. Now that my insurance is no longer accepted, I will have to change optometrist.

When I got a call to make the appointment, I had to provide all the information i sent online over the phone again. It was a waste of my time. Once I provided it, there was no appointment for 3 weeks. I told them it would have been nice to know they couldn't see me sooner as my eyes have been blurry. She worked to bump it up sooner, which I appreciated. When I walked in for my appointment, the receptionist said to wait. I stood for 5 minutes before she then tended to someone else first. I sat down and someone called me 5 minutes later. Would appreciate a final close out with the doctor to review prescription -- felt rushed to be handed off to pick out glasses with no formal recap of recommendations.

I am Deaf with ASL. All of the staff members plus doctors are awesome to communication with me via writing back and forth as smooth process. They are very great patient and no rush at all. Also, they treated me with their respect as human being alike everyone as diversity, not treat me different because of my Deaf with ASL. Started seeing Dr. Smithson 11 years ago when I was 4! He's cool! My prescription is very heavy and I had to have prisms and vision therapy when I was 5 bc my eyes didn't align properly. This week he told me my eyes are very stable and with my glasses there's no job I can't do!

Horrendous service! Our family members have consulted at various times with Dr Snively, Smithson, Giles, and Briceno. They're all very nice. The front line personel, except for the black man, is pitiful. The old white lady is rude and doesn't give a hoot about customers. The Indian girl is not friendly and takes it upon herself to make charges without explanation to the customer. The reception desk can't seem to know what they're doing. It took them 1/2 hour to cancel unapproved charges and settled my bill. This is not the first time that we have witnessed this.

Dr. Giles is excellent, she is not only very skilled and knowledgable, but also very concerned about the patient. Take my case for example, due to my condition of a present mild infection and dryness of the eyes, she suggest it might not be the correct lens prescription from this exam, and asked me to come back after two weeks after these conditions are gone. She is trying to make sure the results are without doubts according to her best knowledge, and not being bothered by the cost of her time. That's what makes a good doctor.

every time I come in for an appointment, the Dr's are running late and I am told this. If this is an ongoing issue, maybe schedule more time for each patient/Dr visit. It was sort of a "meh" experience. The front office staff all seem sort of cranky, and the upsell for a 3D eyeball scan came on quite strong. $170 for just some plastic glasses seems crazy, too. I *have* insurance. Gah. Probably should have shopped around more.

I did not understand specifically what I was being charged for. The invoice had two exams-I paid $10 of the $160 for the first one and the entire amount on the second one. I asked the person at check out to explain the two exams and why I was being charged for the second one and the only answer I received was "That's what your benefit covers". I do not recall paying for two separate exams in the past-I would like further clarification on this.

The Dr. was an hour late. The Technician told me she was "running 20 minutes behind", but I wasn't shown to the Dr until 55 minutes after my scheduled visit. Upon meeting with the Dr. she failed to even acknowledge the fact that she was running behind until the end of the visit when I asked her about the delay, to which she appeared to have no idea of even how far behind schedule she was. If it was an option, I would give zero stars. I will likely not be returning to this practice.

Dr. Snively is extraordinary. She is very attuned to my retinal history. Her recommendation for the Focus Support Multivitamin was an example of just how spot-on her exams and recommended treatments are. She works exceptionally well with two Opthamologists who are treating me for a Central Retinal Artery Occlusion and Glaucoma High Risk. She is truly best-in-class.

I really wish you could expand the available eyeglass frames. I am satisfied with the ones I ordered/purchased, but the selection is not nearly as robust as I believe it could be. And if there are catalogs we can reference for additional options, those were not offered. Overall, fantastic experience - as always!

The doctor was great but was disappointed in the eyeglass selection. It was really small and the sales person was not helpful at all. Basically just shrugged her shoulders at me. I got glasses somewhere else.

The clinical technician and doctor were wonderful. When I made the appointment I verified the price and was quoted a price half of what I was ultimately charged. It was very unprofessional and the check out person was completely unhelpful about their misrepresentation of costs earlier. I can't recommend here after that sort of misleading first encounter.

It would be nice if they gave some discounts on contacts I bought; especially since my Eye insurance only able to use once. If I actually go to the Marrieta website it seems to be cheaper to order from them. I was a little upset when the company that I got my contacts originally from lost my records so the staff at northern doctors of optometry did not know what contact to order and then my order was put in later.

The fellow who was at the front desk did not seem to know understand that my daughter was in because of an emergency-she had a foreign body in her eye. He told us to wait and he would fit us in. One of the patients waiting said my daughter could take her place because it seemed more important. Was awkward, but I assumed that an emergency would take precedence over a scheduled appointment ~ most people understand this. Just don't know if this is your policy or not.

The check in guy was amazing. Dr. Snively took her time and explained the diagnosis and obviously genuinely cares about her patients. We appreciated the enthusiasm of the lady at the end who helps you select your glasses.

The staff seemed very unsure of my benefits and it took much longer than I would've liked checking out as a result. I also wanted contact lenses, but because they were not clear on my insurance I had to leave without them. I still have to call back when I have time to get further information and see if I can add the lenses to my order. Otherwise my visit with the doctor and the service while choosing my new frames was excellent.

I don't remember my doctor's name because he took me last minute due to the other doctor cancelling my appointment without notifying me(which is why I rated my experience fair). Nonetheless, the doctor who saw me was excellent!

Over all everything was excellent here are my comments 1, Although was charged to Medicare I think the charge for Opthomerist Dr. WAS high and don't understand chatge of Optomap 2,asked about cost of Eyeglass , it was exceptional high and I ordered the new glass 1/3 of what they said . also the person did not attempt to explain and un iterest. that was may be because I said I want to know the cost and will shop around which is my right ,but she che could tell me logic of their cost . thank you

Your new confirmation system didn't work too well because I texted back a 'yes' when asked to confirm my appt but when I showed up, they said that my appt had been cancelled. I showed them the text that I send and they realized their system messed up. So I had to wait an extra 20 min to be squeezed in-between appts. Other than that, the staff and doctor were wonderful.
