I just had my first cleaning in a long time, yesterday 1-30-24, by Cheryl and it was the best cleaning I have ever had.She has had almost 30 years of experience as a Hygienist, and is so thorough and gentle, Dr Grote is very fortunate to have her services, considering the extreme shortage of Hygienists. That was the most painful cleaning I have ever had. I am not normally sensitive and can tolerate a lot of pain. I usually don't speak up either, but I had started to cry from the way she was digging with the manual tool and had to ask her to stop. She said she was just trying to get it really clean. I asked her to use the sonicator scaler (or whatever its called) and she said it didn't work as well but she did start using that. I think her intentions were good but I will request to have another hygenist.

I came in for tooth cleaning, as I have for years. A vast majority of the time, it’s been great. However, I did not have a good experience, this time. The person doing the cleaning was heavy handed with the sonic scaler that cased me discomfort. I had to have her pause and lighten up, but it reverted after a couple of teeth. Hand scaling was ok. In the past, pocket measurements were done on all teeth, and recorded. She only checked those that were 4 mm before. She didn’t floss. I felt after I stopped her for the first time she seemed in a hurry to finish. She was nice enough, but I would want someone else next time. The guy that my wife and I saw, if he hasn’t retired yet. Dr Grote. My wife and I have a great orthopedist. We both know what standing for long periods does to our knees and hips. We want you around for a long time. Greg

During my cleaning I felt like I constantly had water in my throat.and my cold sensitivity was worse than normal. I talked to the hygenist and told her the suction didn't feel like it was working correctly. She reduced the flowing water and it still pooled in my throat. I actually spit it out on the protective paper just to get it out. She admitted that it seemed poor in that room and she was hoping it could be fixed. I sure hope that it gets fixed because it made the visit much more uncomfortable than it needed to be. That's why I knocked off a star, equipment malfunction.

The dentist never showed up at my appointment. I was never contacted with any news about the x-rays that I presume the dentist maybe looked at? Honestly, I don't just pay for a cleaning, I also pay for the dentist to take a look at my dental health. I am disappointed at this outcome.

I had a great teeth cleaning experience. I also got a new Prevident cream for my sensitive tooth. I had really expected a cavity or something else wrong with that tooth because I was having day long sensitivity there. So glad that the X-rays said there was nothing wrong. I am so sorry to see this practitioner leave but I wish him the best in his future life! I did not see Dr. Grote.

I wish there was a better way to take X-Rays since the big stiff plate really hurts when I bite down on my toroids. However the hygienist was as gentle as she could be. I went to my appointment yesterday and all went very well. I called from the car, then waited until it was my time to check in. The receptionist opened the door with scrubs, gown, gloves and mask on. She asked some questions about my current health status and took my temperature. I was escorted, with my mask on, to the chair. The dental hygienist had what looked like a N95 mask on, a surgical mask covering the bottom part of the N95, a shield, gown and gloves. She was efficient and thorough, especially because my appt. had been cancelled during the covid closure. A new dentist saw me for a check-up. She was good. So, for now at least, Dr. Grote is only in on Mon., and 2 other dentists fill in for the rest of the week. The hygienist said I could see Dr. Grote at a different time but I was fine with the situation. I felt well protected and Katie did an excellent job cleaning my teeth, especially since I had to miss a past appt.

Hi, I am usually quite pleased with my teeth cleanings. I admit that I'm no expert in exactly what is effective cleaning, but I feel very strongly that my teeth were not thoroughly cleaned. The hygienist is a temporary employee so I know she's quite likely to leave by my next visit, but I am displeased. She spent little time on each step and though I was there a full hour, she spent an enormous amount of time talking (which is fine). The problem was that she continuously gestured with her hands as she talked so she was unable to utilize the time on my teeth. Also, she did the gum measurements in silence and gave me absolutely no feedback on how my gums were doing, either with the numbers or an assessment at the end, such as, no bleeding etc. She barely brushed my teeth and ended the appt. I asked if she was going to floss and she said that she forgot. It was almost bizarre. I normally give positive and glowing reviews to almost every thing and event that I respond to. I could not let this pass. I did appreciate that Dr. Grote stopped in to check how my mouth and teeth were doing. One last comment is that normally everyone is quite welcoming at the front desk. I do have a complaint about the lady that helped me both on the phone (getting an earlier appt.) and checking out. Her manner is brusque which is unfitting for patient interactions.

Great practice! I was recommended to come here and I'm glad I did. The staff were great; the receptionists, the dentist (Dr Grote), and the hygienist (Kathy) were all wonderful. I was treated like a person rather than just a patient; information was discussed with me very clearly and I kept in the loop at all stages of my appointments. I had my hygienist appointment the day after my dentist appointment and Dr Grote came into the room to check I was okay and how everything was going, which was much appreciated. Kathy was great and clearly explained what was going on. I will definitely be recommending Dr Grote and his practice!

My sister and I have been going to this dental office for about 20 years. Now that we no longer live in Davis, we make the trip from Sacramento to continue getting the best dental care. It was perfect! I received one of the best experiences of visiting a dentist in my life. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and feel me so happy after the visit. Had an introductory interview with Dr. Grote and met front office staff. Our first appointment for dental care will not occur until this fall. Everyone very welcoming and friendly. We relocated from out of the area and after being with our dentist for close to twenty five years. Dr. Grote took a good deal of his time to talk about his philosophy of dental care, and to answer our questions. We made appointments for this fall and are looking forward to meeting the rest of the staff and experiencing the care.

I have had many dentists in my eighty years. Your practice has stood out from all the rest. You never push unnecessary procedures, always refer me to excellent specialists, are gentle and employ the latest equipment in your practice. You also continue to have wonderful, caring (painless I might add) hygienists. Absolutely horrible experience with new hygienist. Her technique is far too harsh and I am not the only one who feels that way. I came to the office with no dental issues but since my appointment 4 days ago I have had extremely sensitive gums in two areas. Cold, air, and touch elicit pain. Going into joint replacement in a few weeks the last thing I needed was a dental issue when I had none. If pain/sensitivity do not dissipate I am going to have to return to see the dentist--again a visit I do not wish to add to my schedule, but might have to do so.

Dr. Grote made a temporary crown for broken tooth,and later fitted permanent god crown. He was very pleasant and attentive. He explained each procedure as he was about to do ;it.. He was calm, relaxing and slow and comfortable. the installation of permanent crown was done w/o any novocaine, etc ( his asking my permission) and the whole thing was almost painless. Dr. Keith was referred to me by a friend when I was looking for a dentist to complete my crown on one of my teeth that broke. Yes, to complete, because I walked out of the dental office that was referred to me by my insurance,andwas doing my initial crown. I felt very uncomfortable with him and felt he was trying to sell me an implant tooth where a crown would have been the right choice. Dr. Keith met me at 7:00AM,explained to be what he was going to do, and within 4 hours my crown was fabricated and installed in a very very professional way. My tooth was saved and NO implant was needed. I appreciate that he and his team focus on prevention strategies and educating patients on how to take the best care of their teeth. I have had several dental procedures over the years that were performed by Dr Grote, ranging from fillings, to crowns and referral out for implants. He really takes the time to ensure quality work each time, is highly skilled, and all work done was needed. The thing that sets Dr Grote apart for me from other dentists is his genuine interest in making sure his patients get all of their questions answered. I have never felt rushed when talking to him. Even though his practice is not a preferred provider with my insurance, meaning the copays are higher, I have been coming to him for the past 10 years because a dentist this excellent and trustworthy is truly hard to find. I am just thankful to have such an amazing dentist.

It was quite annoying to find that my initial visit was so minimal. When I called to schedule a cleaning and checkup, I was under the impression that my initial visit would include everything (including cleaning). However, about halfway through my first visit I was told my cleaning wouldn't be done that day. While this isn't a huge deal, it means two visits to the office and thus two payments. Since the first visit was so minimal, no x-rays or anything, I was quite annoyed. You need to be more up front about this as it is deceptive at worst and inconvenient at best.

My visit was terrific! I came to Dr. Grote only 2 weeks after seeing another dentist in the Davis area about a sore tooth. Dr. Grote and his staff identified a possible issue and a strategy to fix it without needless spending. The other dentist was not interested in my sore tooth and merely told me to get three cavities filled (2 of which do not even exist!). The technicians and doctor are very patient and very nice. Taking x-rays which is usually very uncomfortable for me was a lot more comfortable at Dr. Grote's office. The technician would race to the button to make sure I don't have to hold the mouthpiece in for too long. In my last visit to Dr. Grote's office I went for my regular teeth cleaning with Leona, and she found that one of my molars had a chip. Then she took some x-rays and explained to me what the problem was and how to avoid future similar cases. Dr. Grote came to see what the problem was, and made some recommendations for me to do, including coming back the same week to take care of the chipped tooth. If I wasn't in for dental pain, I would say I had an enjoyable experience. Keith explains and shows the issues, truthfully explains the problems and actually cares about your well-being.

The staff are polite, efficient and very knowledgeable. My dental technician always has excellent suggestions about how to improve my teeth and gums and lets me know about things that might come up in the future. Always the newest technology, too, and they are very gentle.
