You folks did me right and I truly appreciate it. Due to modifications in both my needs, and the manufacturing world, the pair of glasses that I ordered weren't exactly right. I tried to make them work for about two weeks and then decided I just wanted better coverage in my progressive lenses. I have been going to Dr. Tem Gromquist for over 25 years. I have had multiple eye surgeries over the years which included detached retinas in both eyes and cataracts removed from both eyes. I also have glaucoma in both eyes. Dr Tem has been able to fit me with both contacts and glasses that are very satisfactory for my vision. I always look forward to my annual visit.

I had a great visit. Very professional, friendly & educational. Wish there were eco-friendly frames. I love the bamboo ones I got from a company in Oregon. I will just replace the lenses then. Wish I didn't have to pay an extra $45 to get the pupillary distance measurement. I guess I'll try to get it on my own.

I have seen Dr. Tem Gronquist twice recently: to evaluate need/options for cataract surgery and a few months after the surgery. In both cases I felt his examination was thorough and that he was very careful to communicate the results. On my second visit, that positive impression of Dr Gronquist was undermined by the optician who operates from their office, whose hard-sell, high-priced tactics were unconvincing: $1,000 for a pair of glasses? “It’s like a well tailored suit or a great pair of shoes, you pay for what you get!” When I discovered—from a different optician (Goleta Valley Optical)—that Medicare must pay for one pair of eyeglasses after cataract surgery, the failure to communicate that information tainted my assessment of the entire practice.

I visited Dr. Joanne Gronquist expecting to have my prescription eyeglasses updated. After giving me a thorough examination, she explained to me that cataracts were my problem, and that a correction of my eyeglasses was not what I needed. She advised me to take care of my cataracts and to come back and see her in a year. I left her office appreciating her honest professional advice and comprehensive exam, looking forward to seeing her in a year.

When I saw Dr. Tem Gronquist in July, I was very worried due to an ongoing pain in my right eye. I called on a Friday and was given an immediate appointment. I was so relieved. Then, after checking my right eye, Dr. Gronquist diagnosed the problem as "a souture", left after a cataract surgery 10 years prior and causing extreme irritation. He attempted to contact 2 different eye surgeons, but both were not in that day. So, Dr. Gronquist then wrote down the name, address and telephone number of Dr. Katzev (who had done the original surgery) and instructed me to call Dr. Katzev the following Monday. I did and was given an immediate appointment. Dr. Gronquist could not have been more clear and so helpful. All went well!

I’ve worn glasses since I was ten, and had a torn retina effectively treated by specialists on Micheltorena, but I had never found a really competent optometrist in Santa Barbara, until a friend referred me to this office. I got a second option on cataract surgery, and know where I will return for new glasses after that procedure.

Several days later, I was grateful for an "emergency" visit - this time with Tem -associated with a painful particle wind delivered to my right eye; it nested beneath my contact lens. I removed the lens and was grateful to receive quick and sympathetic attention from Tem to my discomfort.

My visits included a comprehensive eye exam from Dr. Tem, an additional 2 visits with Corine for glaucoma exams, and multiple visits with Raquel to choose and then install 3 new pair of glasses. Everything was perfect; professional, relaxed, friendly and, ultimately, successful (I can see clearly to write this review). If I had encountered anything that seemed to need improving I'd say so, but I didn't.

My wife and I have been going to Joanne since she and her husband took over the practice from Dr. Dobbs, i.e. for many many years. She is absolutely tops. Super alert to any problems or changes, always up on the latest information and technology, and a great source of referrals when necessary. Having a detailed annual photo of one's retina, etc. is a great way to detect any changes before any serious problems arise. The Gronquist office felt very safe. The staff was friendly and considerate. I was impressed with the advanced technology. Dr. Tem Gronquist took time checking my eyes and finding the right type of prescription for my complicated eyes. I've had cataract surgery and two complicated detached retina surgeries which changed my eye requirements significantly. Dr. Tem Gronquist explained the tests and photographs of my eyes so I could understand my needs. I highly recommend this office for finding the correct prescription and selecting glasses.

Doctor is very good. They have a new machine that takes picture of your eye without dialation. They use it so the doctor doesn't have to get close to the patient, thus avoiding COVID risk. Patient is charged $29. Insurance doesn't cover it. So, if you have a family of 5, count of paying $145 for the exams.

I paid $590 for new contacts. When I came in to get fitted for them I was unable to either put in or take out the lenses on my own. Dr. Tem identified me as "a blinker." He'd previously told me I could get a refund. I've left a vm and sent two emails, but so far I've gotten now response. It seems to me that if I can't use these contacts I should get a refund. ASAP. Please advise.

Great job by Dr. Tem doing the eye exam. Disappointed with the limited selection of new frames. This perhaps due to the system of "spoon feeding" new choices one at a time. Also inability to explain pricing differences...i.e. why new lenses,plus new frame is $155. less than just new lenses in old frame. I like to support the overall business, but there is a limit.

Found Dr. Gronquist’s office through my insurance provider. When I called to make the appointment I gave them my information to make sure I was covered. The appointment itself was fine. Fairly thorough, and even pushed for LASIK, which I’ve never had a doctor say I was qualified for yet - so I was pretty excited and satisfied with the appointment as a whole. They found contacts that worked well and had a rebate. I paid for everything and left. There was no discussion about billing my insurance multiple ways or anything that led me to believe they were unfamiliar with my insurance. A week later I got a call saying I owed another $110. When I went in I had two people help explain the cost to me, and they found that the math was incorrect and I didn’t owe anything additional. Another week went by and I got another call that said those two people were wrong, and I did owe $110 because they were unaware of how to bill my insurance (should have looked that up before charging me incorrectly). I asked for a receipt and another 3-4 days went by before I got one. I don’t understand why only one person is able to explain my bill to me, or why it took so long for them to get the information to me. Overall, would have gone back, but will not return or refer anyone after having this many issues with billing.

Dr. Gronquist and his staff are one of the best teams I've ever gone to in terms of any type of doctors visit. Not only are both of the doctors (Dr. Tem and Dr. Joanne Gronquist) incredibly sweet, kind, and genuine, but the reason why I keep willingly coming back to this office is because of Don, one of their staff members. Typically, I hate doctors visits. However, never have I ever felt so taken care of by an office every single time I'm there... enough that I actually enjoy coming back! All of the staff members are wonderful, but this review is mainly for Don. Don always greets me with the most excited demeanor and has never judged me on how indecisive I am when figuring out which frames are the best and which financial options I would be most comfortable with.. Don is honest, knows exactly what type of frames look good on every face type and tells you exactly how it is, always with a smile on his face. It's a tough decision when trying to figure out which frames you want to commit to, but I have NEVER felt rushed while in his care. This year, I am living out of the country but made sure that I got my yearly checkup at this office in Santa Barbara when I came back to California for short week visit. I needed to get my new frames and contacts sent out to me out of the country and wasn't sure what to do without paying a massive international shipping fee, but Don kindly assured me everything would be fine as he was able to have them delivered to my friend who was flying over to visit me in a month. Best part about this? Not only did Don deliver on his promise to send all my things to my friend on time to get to me, but he left a sweet little note for me in the box about enjoying my time down unda' and wishing me the best of luck. Sometimes, it's the little things that matter and these little things are what will keep me returning back to this office. I had a brief scare when I was seeing a flash of light in one eye when it would get dark. I was able to see Dr. Tem the next day. The tests were very thorough and he reassured me that I didn’t have a detached retina. I came in for a recheck a week later. Dr Tem was awesome. Highly recommend. He took a lot of time to explain everything to me and walk me through all the images. He wasn't pushy about buying anything additional and was very personable. He said I could use minor correction but explicitly stated that getting glasses was completely optional at this point. I feel like other doctors would have tried to get me to buy something.
