Dr. Poon was professional, nice, very thorough, and respectful. It was my first time at this optometry office. Adrianna, the reception/office personnel was VERY good when I called to make my initial appointment. I told her that I was a new patient. She explained everything to me and was very good at communicating the services that this office offered. She helped me check out, order my new contact lenses, and even made my next appointment for next year. I will return as a patient and refer my wife to go.

It was my first time here and doubt I’d be returning. My doctor’s mask kept slipping and the majority of the time his mask didn’t fully cover his nose. The lady who helped take the photos in the beginning also sneezed in front of me, she could have sneezed into her elbow. Throughout my appointment, the doctor had trouble hearing me to the point where I felt like I had to yell 1,2 or same multiple times. I was stressed the entire appointment time from potentially contracting covid (with the practices I’ve seen this office conduct) to the constant raise of my voice and his unfriendly tone.

I love Dr. Middleton! He went above and beyond to make sure my vision was as close to 100% as it could be. For years, I've been having issues with my vision and I went to numerous optometrists, but no one was as thorough as Dr. Middleton. He figured out the problem and it turns out I needed a whole different prescription for one eye. I am so blessed to have been able to be seen, Thank you Dr. Middleton. Merry Christmas!

During the two years that I’ve been a patient, I’ve really appreciated Dr. Middleton’s thorough eye exams so I could get the most accurate and comfortable prescriptions possible. He is an expert in eye care and he really does make sure to give the most in-depth eye exam I‘ve ever had each time I’ve been there. His staff were friendly and helpful in all ways. The entire staff at Family optometry goes above and beyond to accommodate their patients. Dr. Middleton by far is the best optometrist I have seen in my 62 years. I have seen many during my time since I have needed vision correction all my life. Dr. Middleton has taken the time to totally understand what I needed as a patient by making sure he did everything he knew to help me personally. A good example is when he took close to two and a half hours to go through all the possible Toric lenses to check to see a conformable fit for my one eye. No other optometrist did that. As it turns out one manufacturer made a lens that fit me perfectly. I truthfully can say for the first time in my life I can clearly see out of my left eye.

Dr. Middleton’s expertise is clear, yet he is personable and actually listens to both your short and long-term vision goals. The staff is also terrific and have been there long enough to know you (even if you are only in annually). Staff identified a small irregularity in a lens a couple of years ago and pressed for a perfect set on my behalf.

This visit was extremely thorough! All the information and options were explained in layman's terms. I know what might happen as I age. Dr. Ian is very personable as well. He recommended I wait to refill my prescription as my vision had.not.change enough to warrant the expense of new specs. Not all docs are that considerate of my budget. I was greeted when my hand was still on the door and I was made to feel welcome immediately. Ariana took me in for some initial screenings and she did a great job of explaining everything to me in a way that didn't make me feel ignorant, but improved my experience. Dr. Middleton was kind and personable. He and his staff did a very thorough exam and exceeded my expectations. The advanced technology was quite impressive. When I inquired about contacts Dr. Middleton put a pair in my eyes to let me try them out. I was assisted by Marielle in choosing new glasses. This is admittedly a stressful time for me because I never know what is covered by my insurance and how much my out of pocket cost will be. This is the first office I have ever been to that previewed my insurance and let me know what was covered and what wasn't. It was so comforting and allowed me to shop within my budget. Marielle knew her stock so well and listened to what I was wanting. So much so that I chose the first pair of frames she suggested I try! At the end of my visit I made an appointment for a contact lens fitting with Samantha. Since I've never worn contacts before Samantha explained in detail what to expect for the next appointment and I learned things I didn't expect to learn that allow me to be better prepared to make a decision about contacts. Again, the costs were completely disclosed up front. Overall, this office experience made me feel cared for. I made an appointment for my daughter before I left because I knew she would be in good hands there.

Places like this are getting harder and harder to find. Dr. Middleton goes above and beyond to make sure your vision is as good as possible when you leave the office. He and the rest of the staff are all very attentive, and I've never once felt rushed (even when I spent hours trying to find *just* the right frames). Last time I was in the office I just mentioned that when I wear my contacts my eyes will sometimes feel itchy or tired at the end of the day, and he found a different brand of lens that has totally fixed all of that. I highly recommend this office, and won't go anywhere else now!

Obviously the five stars shown above reflect both patient and business summation. It is always a pleasure to be greeted by both receptionist and Samantha, who seems to be the captain of the entire enterprise. When Dr. Middleton arrived at my room, he immediately took charge and discussed the various steps needed to undergo cataract surgery. By having pertinent questions ready, I was able to expedite the important information needed. In fact, I recommend all patients do their homework prior to arriving at a visit. But what clinched the five-star award was the speed with which Samantha was able to schedule my appointment with an ophthalmologist. When I thanked her for her efforts, she replied, "My pleasure.' No, Samantha. Your help was my pleasure.

I have always been fitted with a prescription that was accurate therefore providing me with excellent vision. I was post cataract surgery and a little upset about my vision and they got me in the same day I called. I felt so much better and more informed after visiting with Dr. Middleton. I didn't think/know I had macular degeneration in my left eye. I had been mis-diagnosed as having it years ago. When you said I had it yesterday, it seemed like you thought I knew it and it was no big thing (but for me it is a big thing). If I do have it, how long have I had it? Or is this something new? Dr. Middleton is a wonderful doctor and person. I am truly grateful that he hasn't retired yet! He has been my eye Dr since I was 12. I've only ever had one other eye Dr and that was only bcs I moved to Los Angeles. No one could compare to Dr Middleton both in terms of quality of care and quality of character.

There is no fee for contact lenses we put on your eyes at the time of your visit! Our practice strives to provide the highest quality of care to every single patient we have, unfortunately we do not have the buying power to compete with the corporations and it is discouraging that we are not able to provide all necessary services to our patients because of the financial aspect.

Very Expensive, I got charged $210 for a routine eye exam, everywhere else is around $100 I didn't see why they believe they're %100 better, not worth it. I also purchased a pair of glasses for $350 at Cosco, they were going to charge me $550 for the same glasses. I don't understand why, it pays to shop around.

There has never been a reason to change, since both Dr Middleton, other doctors, and support staff have all taken care of everything needed to keep our vision needs and eye health at their best. Everything went very well. I agreed to dilation and although I continued to wear my sun glasses throughout the day, even indoors, I experienced only mild discomfort. My eyes felt irritated and were light sensitive. I applied Systane Ultra at bedtime and by the next day my eyes were less sensitive. I trust my next dilation will be equally uneventful.

I wouldn't change anything. Dr. Middleton is not only a good optometrist but a very nice man. He used a few tests I hadn't seen before. I would recommend him to anyone. My husband is my first referral and will use him for his next eye exam and next pair of glasses. Leanne, who fit my glasses, understands perfect fit as well as the right style. I wouldn't go to anyone else.

My Post Cataract Surgery Visit — Debbie S. (Patient since Tue Oct 15 00:00:00 MDT 2013)

As soon I got home after my last visit on Thursday, 11/19, I called Family Optometry. A female answered the phone (she did not give her name);I asked to speak to Eric and she told me he was helping a customer. I told her my name and said I understood he was busy, but would she ask him to call me back. She said yes and hung up before asking for my number (I'm assuming she already had it). I did not receive a call back that evening, so I figured Eric had been too busy and he would call me on Friday. Unfortunately, no call on Friday either. I was hoping to speak with Eric because he was in the treatment/exam room during my visit with Dr. Lau. I find Eric to be very nice and helpful. I was hoping to share with Eric my disappointment with my visit. When I left I was angry, frustrated and upset. I arrived for a post follow-up visit from having two cataract surgeries the month before. This would be the third visit since having the surgery. I was seen by a Dr. Lau? It was never explained to me why Dr. Lau...where was Dr. Ian Middleton? I didn't even know there was a Dr. Lau working with Dr. Middleton; this was never discussed with me. I found Dr. Lau to be very condescending, and lacking in his knowledge of my case. He contradicted almost everything I'd been told my Dr. Middleton during my last two visits and when I would mention what I had been told by Dr. Middleton, his comment to me (at least 10 times) was that he would need to read my notes!!! I don't understand why a Dr. not familiar with my case would be performing my follow-up visit, let along NOT read my notes, so he could speak with some intelligence regarding my case. I explained to Dr. Lau that I was experiencing a lot of discomfort, tiredness and irritated eyes; at one point during the visit, Dr. Lau stated that there were two issues, one was my vision and the other my comfort. He only addressed the vision; ordering even another pair of glasses?? So, if I have this correct, I will know have computer/near vision glasses, distance glasses and will require sunglasses for both??? It wasn't until I asked again about the discomfort,tired, burning eyes and asked about drops that he offered them. I don't expect perfect vision; I do however, expect to be seen by a Dr. that knows my case. I didn't appreciate being seen by Dr. Lau. Also now, after seeing Dr. Lau, I'm more confused than ever, because they did not coincide with what Dr. Middleton has been telling me. Also at no time was it ever explained to me that by removing the cataracts my vision would be worse, resulting in going from one pair of glasses to two. If I'd known this I would've lived with the cataracts, at least I could see. Debbie Semrau

A large portion of the cost of glasses is the custom prescription progressive lenses, we understand that it is a seemingly large amount for eye wear but when you take into consideration that you will wear these daily for (at the very least) a year the overall cost is very minimal, at less than $2.00 per day! Dr. Middleton has always taken the time to explain things to me and I now have a better grasp of cataract surgery and feel I can deal with it by September. It is still concerning but I trust that he will get LaserVue clued in on what I need, and you will all hold my hand if necessary!

One real opportunity for improvement! I was hit with a $182 SURPRISE at the end of my visit, which I did not appreciate! I like to be able to PLAN my expenditures! An easy fix could be, when you confirm the appointment, to say "Do you have a copay due with this service? We know people do not like surprises." It just brings the word "copay" into the conversation. I think money should be contracted BEFORE the service is provided, not after! And thank you for asking!

As a patient on disability I was surprised to find out that while the assessment is covered, glasses are not. That isn't your fault, but it would have been helpful to be given options to pursue in order to get the glasses I clearly need but, based on the cost I was given, cannot afford. That may be why I haven't had my eyes checked for so long - why bother if I can't afford the solution?
