I’ve been searching for a new optometrist for some time and I’m glad I finally checked out El Portal Optometry. El Portal is walking distance from home so the convenience is great but what made the experience great was the friendly and helpful staff. They were informative and helped me select the best glasses for me. I also really liked the selection to choose from. This will be my family’s new optometrist!!

I was treated with a friendly kindness from the moment I stepped in, from the front desk employees to the technician who administered my initial diagnostic tests. Dr. Shao put me at ease from the beginning, and I felt comfortable opening up to her about my quirky eye habits that involve contacts, regular glasses, and sometimes readers since I work full time on a computer or looking at a TV screen all day. She listened to me and when it was determined my usual prescription hadn't changed for far vision, I only got a renewal on my contact lenses (although a Rx for transition glasses before progressives were put on my file in case I wanted to try those out). Someone else helped adjust the glasses I had gotten from my last eye doctor, and now I can finally wear them. Overall, this was a positive experience, and I never felt pressured or shamed in any way for taking so long to visit the eye doctor.

I’ve been going here for years. Great service, wonderful and friendly employees. Dr’s also take the time to review the scans with you and explain any changes that have occurred. It’s reassuring and makes me feel like my Dr is a partner in health.

Very satisfied with my visit. They are thorough and patient with their patients and not pushy at all during the purchase of new glasses. I would’ve liked more feedback on my testing results and would’ve liked to have gone over the exam report with the physician at the end but now I’m aware and will request that’ on my next visit. I've been going to optometrists since 1985, but it wasn't until I discovered El Portal Optometry a few years ago that I found one with a personal touch. I always feel very welcomed and taken care of here, from the doctors through the supporting staff. I never feel pressured into an upsell, and they take the time to thoroughly explain everything I could possibly want to know about my eye health.

I have never had optometrists so consistently get my prescription right. Whether Dr. Kawamoto or Dr. Kongsakul, I'm always in good hands. If my eyes haven't changed, they tell me. Over the last decade, whether I purchase mono-focal, progressive bifocal, or contacts, when I get my new lenses, I can see all the things! The doctors are fun to chat with, and the staff is friendly and helpful. El Portal Optometry is the best!

The office is conveniently located in North Hollywood. I was immediately welcomed in when I arrived and everyone was very friendly. The office has a pleasant atmosphere good selection of frames. The four stars are for the doctors and reception staff alone! I’ve been a long time patient for over 10 years and never have I felt more ripped off for paying for glasses than I did yesterday. I’m certainly not the only one because I overheard an elderly couple saying the price was too high. I ended up cancelling my glasses order immediately after researching better prices online for Silhouettes frames. I even found a new competitor down the street from you that would price match the cost of the frame. You just lost a loyal patient/customer for good! Not even coming back for the doctors because your glasses department is price gouging. It’s a shame, you should do better with customer retention especially in this economy where family budgets are getting squeezed.

These guys are amazing. The representative that assisted me was absolutely knowledgeable and guided me to the best option possible for my lens selection. I hadn’t gone to an optometrist in nearly 5 years. I always concerned myself with my children’s eyesight rather than my own. Recently I’ve realized that I have been struggling to see things at a close range. I’ve always had perfect eyesight so I started to become concerned. I went to El Portal Optometry hoping to feel comfortable and find out where the future of my vision was headed. From the moment I entered I was greeted warmly and was made to feel as if I was at home. Dr. Kawamoto walked me through the entire process of where my eyesight was, and with the help of glasses where my eyesight could be. She made me comfortable and explained everything simply yet profoundly. After the exam I was to pick out glasses for my prescription. At no point did I feel pressure to select a particular type of eyewear. I was thoroughly explained all my options. In the end I was delighted by my decision, and the young lady who helped me. I would definitely refer anyone to El Portal Optometry. I couldn’t see (forgive the pun) myself going anywhere else.

The staff is always friendly and helpful. They take Covid-19 precautions to protect the customers and the staff. They have a great selection of eyewear. Most importantly to me, I have never had more accurate eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions than from Dr's Kawamoto and Kongasol. Now is the best I've been able to see since the 3rd grade!

I am so thankful to Dr. Gina Shao and staff at El Portal. I was able to be seen immediately for a retina exam after concerning symptoms arose that needed attention. I recently had cataract surgery, I no longer needed glasses and rounded up over half a dozen pair of old glasses. Having been a long time customer of El Portal, I called and asked if they were in a program that donated old glassed to those in need, and they did. It's nice to know that someone, somewhere, can benefit from my old glasses and that El Portal does that service. It was great to go back again and having them remember me as soon as I walked in, and it was nice to see old, familiar faces. I'm still going to use their services for annual eye check ups and exams even though I really don't need glasses anymore. That's how much I like them.

I was referred to El Portal Optometry, and had a great experience! Dr. Kristal was awesome!! A couple things to note, some of the tests are done in the lobby and the ambient lighting made it a little bit difficult for me. I wasn't told about a contact lens fitting fee upfront, so that was a surprise. It would have been nice to get a heads up about that.

El Portal has been my all time favorite vision go to. I moved away from No-Ho about 6 years ago. I looked for a comparable vision specialist in my area, but to no avail. There are many places you could go to get glasses or contacts, but El Portal is number one. I've worn glasses my whole life and my prescription is always spot on with El Portal's labs. Plus, there is always a large selection of beautiful frames to choose from. It's hard to go with anything else, when you've already had the best.

I have been going to this practice for almost three years now. I have found that all Doctors and Staff are extremely friendly. The doctor takes the time to help you understand any test results and the health of your eyes. I was nervous to go to a new optometrist in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. After extensive research, El Portal was the most forthright on their website about the precautions they were taking for patient safety. They also have a slew of super positive reviews and after my first appointment, I must agree. Everyone was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The exam is quickly performed with some really cool high-tech equipment (disinfected before and after each patient, so essentially cleaned twice before you touch it) and Dr. Shao was super personable and knowledgeable while going over my results. Mask etiquette was on-point and they're cognizant of distancing throughout. They are savvy with online and texting tools that make appointments and follow-ups super convenient and accessible. Couldn't recommend them more.

The staff that work here are all very friendly and pleasant to speak with when scheduling an appointment. They also have this imaging system that takes a look at the inside of your eye ball to make sure that there’s nothing obscuring the optic nerve and/or to check on the little veins in there. Lastly, Dr. Kawamoto is easily the best eye doctor I’ve seen on my life. She is very friendly and cares about her patients on a personal level. I love that she isn’t pushy about purchasing prescriptions if you don’t really need them. She really gives you the advice that you need.

The entire process was lengthy and ultimately I am frustrated and unsatisfied and feel gipped out of my time and money. I purchased the first pair of glasses and they had to make adjustments, but in the end I could see out of them. I purchased the exact same frames only in a different color and this time I could not see out of the lenses at all. They sent them back to the lab three times, saying it was a different lab causing the issues, but kept switching stories. After the third time received, I still cant see out of the glasses and they give me headaches and it feels like I am in a funhouse. The ladies said they couldn't do anything further because the lab couldn't make the correct lenses for me and I would have to deal with the lenses not working even though I already paid almost $400 dollars for them. I am extremely upset and will tell everyone to avoid El Portal at all costs. You didn't even offer a refund for the lenses or frames seeing as they don't work.

Overall it was a great experience! Everything runs so smoothly from the time I was greeted to when they finalized the invoice. All the tests are lined up in a way that makes it very expedient. As per usual I had an excellent experience at Dr Andys office. The minute I walked in the door - the staff all said hello with big smiles and I was quickly signed in , updated and the eye tests were done promptly. I met with Dr Andy and he was very thorough with my tests and answers to the many questions I had with the change in my vision. On my annual eye exam I mentioned that there seemed to be something occurring with one of my lenses. What started out as a small, straight line progressed into what looked like something delaminating inside the lens. It turned out the anti-glare coating was going bad and the technician noticed it on the other lens as well. As it turned out, both lenses were replaceable under warranty! I'v never had to use this feature before but it was a relief since my policy doesn't cover new lenses for quite a while and I'll now get a new set of lenses. They were straight up front about it and set my mind as ease. It was a pleasure and a relief to deal with.

The store manager is extremely rude and unprofessional. I'm ok with sales associates making mistakes (no one is perfect), as along as the willingness to correct the mistake is there, and the customer is taken care of. But that's not the approach the store manage decided to take. She chose to argue with me, when all I was asking for is to be treated fair. It's been nearly a month now and I have not received my glasses. I expressed my frustration to the store manager and instead of working with me (the customer) she decided to give me a refund. Now I have to wait another 10days for the funds to be put back into my account and for my insurance company to reinstate my benefits. Not only has this experience been frustrating, its also been a waste of my time.

I've been coming here for several years and have always been very pleased with the service. They've even saved me money by helping me repair eye wear on warranty. The staff is very friendly, and I always feel that I'm being cared for.

My experience at El Portal was great! Its a little unfortunate that due to the small size of the office all the tests for your appointment with the doctor need to be done out in the open. Overall that did not effect my visit just merely an observation.

Every time I come in for a check up, I have the most fantastic experience. The front desk staff is incredibly welcoming and generous with answering any and all questions. The doctors are very detailed and just lovely people. I would recommend this office to anyone!! It's one of the best offices I've been into and it's in a great location and the experience is always a pleasant one. Thank you all for such outstanding service!!

This business may be small, but the service is enormously satisfying. At first, when I walked in, I thought it small in here, but quickly I was greeted and helped, so that thought was voided. I filled out the paper work as I was a new patient. Then quickly I was called and my retired got checked. The employees there are awesome. They made me feel comfortable and provide great service!

It was a very positive experience. The woman who did my eye photography was nice, patient, and gave good instructions. The finances woman was nice, and thorough. The Doctor was amazing, she answered all my questions and was quite thorough with her examination. The entire staff is made up of nice, quality people, who do excellent work, and have a sense of humor.

Everyone from the desk staff to the doctor was wonderful. Making a last minute medical appointment was easy and when I came in, the doctor took the time to answer all of my questions after the exam. As a previous reviewer said, the office is very nice and has state-of-the-art equipment. I will definitely be returning to El Portal.
